What makes Fleet such a great place to live, work and do business?

Hart has been recognised as the best place to live in the country for the last 5 years. As well as the statistics about health, education and wellbeing there are other reasons which make Fleet and Church Crookham such a great place to live.

  1. We are very lucky to be surrounded by open spaces - Fleet Pond is the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire and a site of Special Scientific Interest. In fact Victorians used to travel down from London to skate on the pond in winter and swim in summer.
  2. We also have the Basingstoke canal running through Fleet and Church Crookham.
  3. The town has many independent retailers who sell some amazing products and there a number of specialist retailers who have customers who travel from many miles away.
  4. We also have lots of independent restaurants and a monthly artisan food and craft market. We have a Food Festival held in May which is now in its 3rd year and Fleet is becoming known as a destination for Food and eating out.
  5. Fleet also puts on some amazing events each year including the annual Carnival (now in its 61st year), The Christmas Festival, Fireworks Fiesta, a half marathon, 10k and 5k races.
  6. There is a great sense of community and people are, rightly, very proud of their town. In fact a community campaign last year raised enough money through crowdfunding to purchase Bear Humbug who was designed by Ant & Dec as part of the Paddington trail in London for the Paddington movie. They even arranged a surprise visit for Ant & Dec to come and unveil Paddington who now lives in the library.
