Fleet votes YES to become a Business Improvement District

Businesses in Fleet voted YES in the ballot in March 2017 for Fleet to become a Business Improvement District bringing an investment of £750,000 into the town.

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led and funded partnership working to implement projects that benefit an area and its businesses. It is set for a period of 5 years. A BID:

  • Provides services to local businesses in addition to those provided by the District Council, the Town Council, the Police and other service providers.
  • Is owned and run by local businesses.
  • Is funded by a by a 1.5% levy payable by all business within the defined BID area.

The Fleet Business Forum is a group of local businesses who care passionately about Fleet and want to see more people visit the town for shopping, eating out, meeting up with friends and for leisure activities. Formed in April 2015 the Fleet Business Forum has been working on a proposal for Fleet to become a Business Improvement District focusing on the following areas

  • Better marketing & promotion of the town
  • More events and other achievable projects to increase footfall
  • Allowing local businesses to take the lead on improving the town
  • Having the strength of a united voice and negotiating better deals for businesses
  • Increased business support.
