Recently Ofcom have announced that they have opened Fleet as a town that can be granted a full-time community radio licence.

The team behind the project are looking for support from the local community to develop the proposal to the next stage.

What's the idea?

The aim is to create a community radio station for Fleet, Farnborough and surrounding areas (Yateley, Hook, Harley Wintney, Church Crookham) targeted at the under 40s with the core audience being 15-25 year olds. The station would have some specialist music shows, including a show that would give local bands, music producers and DJs the chance to have their music played on the radio.

In addition there would be opportunities for local colleges to help pupils studying media the chance to learn radio in a “real environment” and give airtime to the college.

How can you help?

The project team currently need:

  • Letters of support from local colleges who would be interested in being involved
  • Letters of support from the community
  • Support with fundraising
  • Premises for the station
If you can help please email the team at support@mylocalradio.co.uk
