On Friday 8th May from 2.30pm–4pm, Care UK’s Amherst House, on Court Lodge Road, is opening its doors to honour the 81st anniversary of VE Day with its very own celebration.
VE Day marks the moment Prime Minister Winston Churchill made the announcement that the War in Europe had come to an end. This emotional news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.
Guests will be able to dance the afternoon away to live 40s music from local artist Malindi and enjoy cream teas specially delivered by the local community team at Tesco.
Resident Phyllis Long (109-years-old), said: “It’s so important for the community to come together to remember VE Day as we owe so much to those who gave their lives to protect this country.”
Cristina Cristea, Home Manager at Amherst House, said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating the VE Day anniversary alongside our local community and are particularly looking forward to enjoying an afternoon of live music and dancing together.
“This anniversary holds great significance for residents, and we’re eager to reflect on this moving chapter in history while also hosting a truly memorable celebration.
“Everyone is warmly invited to join us for what will be a meaningful, engaging and enjoyable day for all.”
