It has often been said that the Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim was the George Gershwin of Brazil. He transformed the extroverted rhythms of the Brazilian samba into an intimate music, the bossa nova (“new trend”), which became internationally popular in the 1960s with many of his songs becoming jazz standards and recorded by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Tonight we celebrate this sound with our special guests Lily Dior and Alex Garnett.
