Emma Dunbar is a contemporary British painter known for vivid colour, bold pattern and the familiar details of everyday life. Her still-life and landscape paintings bring together flowers, fruit, animals, harbour scenes and collected objects. Atmospheric rather than literal, they capture the character of a place or moment with warmth, wit and energy.
Working mainly in acrylic on board, Emma builds each painting through flat areas of colour, scratched surfaces and occasional touches of collage, gold and silver leaf. Her training in printmaking can be seen in the strong shapes and clear structure of her compositions. Opening in January, Colour and Joy brings light to the winter months and celebrates the pleasure found in ordinary things.
Emma's paintings are shown alongside handwoven rugs by Jacqueline James and sculpture by Harry Chadwick. Across painting, textile and sculpture, the three artists share an interest in colour, pattern, texture and the familiar forms of everyday life. Together, the works create a warm and visually rich exhibition that celebrates the pleasure of looking closely at the things around us.
