Paper artist Anna Cook returns to New Ashgate Gallery with Cut from Nature. Inspired by old botanical drawings and the beauty of the natural world, Anna creates intricate hand-cut paper works populated by birds, woodland animals and richly detailed foliage.
Each piece begins as a hand-drawn design before being carefully cut from layers of tonal paper. Anna then moulds, curls and embosses individual elements, building depth and texture before assembling the work within deep box frames. Cut from Nature celebrates the precision, patience and quiet humour of her practice, from familiar foxes and hares to blackbirds, crows and mice.
