Alanna Combes  - Town Centres Manager for Epsom & Ewell Borough Council has kindly sent us full details on the Plan E changes due to commence shortly in Epsom Town Centre:

You’ll be pleased to hear that the improvement works to the roads and paving in Epsom Town centre will be starting in the new year. These works aim to reduce congestion and make it easier for pedestrians to move about and so encourage footfall beyond the well-trodden areas in and around the Ashley Centre.

The first phase of the works are due to start on January 9th on Ashley Avenue and should be finished at the end of March. This phase will create a new bus stand for buses to wait (not a drop off/ pick up for passengers) at the back of the Ashley Centre to replace the one on the north side of the marketplace that too often blocks the road and holds up motorists and makes it harder for pedestrians to have a clear view around them.

Most of this work will be carried out Monday to Friday with lane closures from 9.30am to 4pm – so we’ll all need to allow extra time to get around.  Attached is a leaflet giving an overview of this first phase of works with web-links to more detail; another document (Epsom Works Update) gives a bit more detail on this first phase; and the final document gives an overview of the whole scheme.

In general you can get the details of the complete scheme and the most up to date information (on whatever the current phase is) on the Surrey County Council website: https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/roads-and-transport-policies-plans-and-consultations/major-transport-projects/epsom-and-ewell-major-transport-schemes  This will be updated as the full scheme progresses so you can always dip in to get the latest.
