The Christmas lights have been turned on and the city is feeling festive once again - what a great time of year! Edinburgh does Christmas so well.

Traditional Christmas events are popping up all over the city to help you get into the spirit.

There's the Ethical Christmas Fair which opens on 28th November and runs until Christmas Eve at Ocean Terminal. This unique and beautiful event has exhibitors coming from across the globe from as far Zambia, India, Kenya and Chile, providing shoppers with a unique opportunity to shop ethically as well to meet the people behind the products.

And of course, the European Christmas Market has already opened, and is open from 10am to 10pm each day - stretching from the Mound, along East Princes Street Gardens Terrace and around the Scott Monument.

The Virgin Money Street of Light is a breathtaking new event set to light up Edinburgh’s Old Town this Christmas. From Saint Andrew’s Day to Christmas Eve, an architectural installation of over 60,000 lights will run along the Royal Mile, from City Chambers to the Tron Kirk.

And talking of Saint Andrew's Day (Monday 30th Nov), the city will celebrate Scotland’s national day with a selection of fun and family friendly events in St Andrew Square – including Scottish Storytelling and Country Dancing in the Spiegeltent, Pipe Music, Fiddle Playing and Soul Singing on the Main Stage. Full details can be found here.

Or another way to celebrate our patron saint's day would be to head over to Whisky Enlightenment at The Scotch Whisky Experience. You can warm up with a delicious winter toddy on arrival, before you take a light-hearted look at the world of Scotch whisky in a “20 minute whisky expert” session, where you’ll also sample a specially selected single malt matched with a chocolate.

For more details of other events happening across the city this coming week, check out our full events guide.

There are also guides to all the city's farmers markets and car boot sales.

And don't forget, if you know of any great upcoming community events, feel free to tell us about it here.

Until next time, have a great week ahead!
