The room is exactly what you pay for and it serves it's purpose. Not far from the train station and having not been Eastbourne before was easy to find! The English speaking staff were great and keen to interact and chat to you! My only niggle is the bed so so uncomfortable like breeze blocks I was in a single room so can't comment on the comfort of the larger beds! Should i have stayed more than one night is have asked for a swap! Breakfast for £5 although I didn't have this as I left early due to no sleep! :-)

We have just arrived home after spending Christmas (23rd - 27th) at The Afton. Where do I start? Well, we are a newly retired couple and we took our 96 year old mum with us. We had a double room and although mum was only booked and charged for a single, she was given a twin bedded room all to herself. The rooms were warm, clean and comfortable and had everything you needed.
We had never had a 'Hotel Package Christmas' before and were a bit apprehensive when we arrived about spending Christmas with absolute strangers, but within a few hours, thanks to the friendliness off the staff we all settled down and began to feel 'at home'.
We were eagerly anticipating our first meal, and went downstairs to the restaurant. We were given a table for 4 which was at the end of a longer table. Our waiter for most of the holiday was Steve, who could not do enough for us.The food was extremely well presented and tasty. As soon as you had finished one course than the next one appeared like magic! I could not fault the choice of food available, or the quality for the entire holiday. They have definitely mastered catering for large amounts of people, while still retaining that individual feeling of an intimate meal. After 5 days of scrumptious meals, I am too scared to go on the weighing scales!
By Christmas Eve we had begun to settle down and make friends in the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. By the end of our holiday we had made so many wonderful friends they felt like 'family' and it was hard to leave them.
All the odd bits of information:
The hotel is just the right temperate all the time. Not too hot or too cold. There is only one lift that can get a bit busy just before mealtimes, but is efficient and quick. Marco the owner is amazingly friendly and knows his 'regulars' very well, and also looked after the 'Afton Virgins' like us. No wonder some of the people there have been 8 years running! The water pressure on the 3rd floor is a bit low, but if you run around in the shower it is fine! We did not have any problems with noise, (only the Sally Army Band playing at 10.30pm on Christmas Eve at the end of the pier) If we had known this was a tradition we would have gone out to watch them. The beds are comfortable and the bedding spotless. Towels are changed daily and our bed made and room tidied too. The entertainment was good, and the little touches like afternoon tea, cake and a game of Bingo, or someone would just bring round a plate of hot sausage rolls all 'No Charge'
For anyone thinking about booking any all inclusive holiday or any other holiday at The Afton, don't ponder...just book it!

We got a very cheap winter rate for one night at this hotel and we were very pleased with it. The room, although not huge, was clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities. We asked for a quietly located room, which we got, with a side view of the sea/pier - very good. The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. The bar prices were very good and they have entertainment on most nights. We went on a Thursday and there was an excellent vocalist - Leigh Baker - who was extremely good and who I presume is a regular fixture there. We did not have evening meal, but were told by other guests that the food was acceptable and plentiful. We certainly found that to be the case with the breakfast. We will definitely be visiting this hotel again in the future.

My wife and I were on a coach trip organised by Edwards Coaches South Wales along with 16 friends.
We arrived on Monday 19th Jan and left on Friday 23rd.
Good welcome from Jadon who explained the porterage arrangements.
The room was comfortable and whilst we thought at first, quite small,
This turned out not to be the case when a chair was removed.
Most importantly the room was very CLEAN and remained so for the rest of our stay.
Staff very polite and willing to assist.
Jason was always there to provide information and with the exception of the comedian on the Wednesday night the entertainment was great.
Would I visit again?
The answer a resounding yes.
Breakfast was brill and the evening meal offered a veggie option which we appreciated.

My husband myself and 2 friends have just returned from a Edwards Coach 5 day break staying at the Afton hotel. Hotel was lovely and clean, our room was spotless and had balcony shame it wasn't summer. Staff very pleasant ,Breakfast and Dinner really nice and a choice of meat fish or veggie main. My friend is very picky with her food but there was alway's something she could eat. There was 2 coaches and we give credit to the chef,s everything was well cooked and hot we enjoyed entertainment especially the Wednesday comedian.
We will definitely return.

We stayed in the Afton Hotel as we were attending a function there, and it turned out to be a wise decision. It’s a traditional seaside hotel in a good way. A tiny but efficient reception area provided a warm welcome and we made our way up to our room on the third floor. This turned out to be a large room, with a large bed and tastefully furnished with very ivory-coloured dressing tables (2) and a wardrobe with a full-length mirror. The bathroom was small, but all you need for an overnight stay is a loo, wash-basin and shower in any case. Although the room overlooked the rear, there was a dinky little balcony which might be nice for a summer stay. The star turn, however, was the bed. I have never had such a good night’s sleep in a hotel in this or any other country. An excellent full English breakfast served by cheerful, helpful staff was provided in the morning and this was included in the cost. The hotel is excellently positioned right opposite the Pier, and I can imagine that in summer it is very popular and busy.

Stayed at this hotel with a coach trip was not expecting much but was pleasantly supprised, lovely clean hotel the beds were one of the most comfortable I've slept in the food was plenty and always hot, all the staff was pleasant and helpfull especially the night bar staff. Wonderfull position right by the pier had room on the front and had no problem with noise from the pier as some people have complained about on here yes you heard people outside but you can expect that as it has the old sach windows and not double glazing but that is part of the charm of this old building. Eastbourne has a lovely shopping center and is about 2mins walk from the hotel.the hotel also had nightly entertainment which was excellent

Just arrived home from a 4 night stay at the Afton hotel. I was part of the Edwards party from south wales. Had a lovely stay, the staff were all very friendly and efficient. I did have too complain about my mattress as it was very worn and I could feel the springs, But the manager straight away got me another single duvet too lay on which did the job.Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff day or night. My room was spotless !! and cleaned every day.The hotel was very clean throughout. Just 1 tiny thing needs too be added and that's a shelf in the shower which again was spotless. The food was very basic and not much choice but was served quickly and always with a smile and for the money it was very good value. All in all a fab stay!

Just has a 4 night stay here and as in November 2013 when we last visited it is still the best. The hotel is well positioned for the pier, town and public transport. It is spotlessly clean in the public areas and the rooms. The staff are warm and friendly and very helpful. Lovely room with a very spacious bathroom. Beds were very comfy. We only ate on the first night ( as we chose to eat out for the experience) but this meal was hot and served by very experienced staff. Would recommend to all.
