It was a very long phone call asking questions that they knew the answers to. I was asked had I received my quote via email and I said yes. Then my email address was then read out to me by every letter but it was obviously right as I’d received quote! Then they need my driving licence. I said I’d sent it last year and it was still on the app on my phone. But for some reason she couldn’t access it. Then after a long wait then yes she could. It was very repetitive.

Although undergoing considerable restoration, the castle and exhibitions are open and certainly worth a pre booked (only way to gain entrance) visit. Once the pestilence has passed, visitors should be able to explore much more of this magnificent structure, which has stood here since the Romans built their Fort in the 4th century A.D.

A delightful ruin with just enough nooks and crannies to explore. Strtigically significant from the Roma era to WWII. The audio tour provides a sense of it's history in a relaxed engaging manor.

Stunning and more than worth a visit! If you are travelling a decent distance it is probably worth making a weekend of it and checking out some of the other local sites!

Castle with WW2 modifications. Lots to look at with plenty of explanatory sign boards.
Shop but no cafe or loos that we could find on the site.

Great place. So much history in one place. Well looked after. Would have been nice to see inside more towers / rooms or more raised walk ways to get views over the battlements. The volunteer staffing the entry point was very nice and polite. Plenty of photo opportunities. The outer section of the castle is free entry and a great place for picnic too. Amazing to think how many people would have lived here at one point.

Free to walk around the exterior grounds and beside the outer walls. You have to pay a small fee to go into the main part of the castle.

There is more to see than you think once inside with a couple of rooms with info boards in, and two underground sections.
