I discovered this pub by accident, just looking for somewhere to eat. Since then I've been back many times and took some friends visiting the area. I drive from Surrey to Eastbourne for a day out and go for lunch at The Crown & Anchor.
I usually order the steak but my friends ordered other dishes and were quite happy. There's always a table available during off-peak times but it's better to book one in busy periods.

Nice proper old pub.
Large portions of food, which is a refreshing change, and for very good prices.

Called in this lovely pub to use the toilet and stayed for several drinks. Didn't eat but everyone around us did. The food looked and was presented nice by the hard working staff and I would definitely eat here. The place had a lovely atmosphere and ambulance about it. Will call again

Booked here on the reviews on trip advisor. So glad we did. We rarely get chance for a roast dinner and hadn't eaten all day so booked for an early evening meal. The staff were so friendly and welcoming despite already having a very busy day. The roast beef we ordered came very quickly, closely followed by the the horseradish sauce. We had ordered gravy on the side as I am very fussy as to what it touches on my plate but this was not at all a problem for the staff. The vegetables were truly delicious and plentiful, the beef gave my teeth a bit of a workout but was very tasty. We ordered dessert which was homemade and my husband enjoyed the crumble and custard immensely. I had the cheesesboard as not a sweet fan, and for once the cheese did not outnumber the biscuits but were in perfect ratio. The stilton was delicious and the grapes a nice accompanyment. All the staff were very friendly and hospitable and I look forward to visiting again.

Just had a succulent belly pork with freshly cooked seasonal veg and creamy mash. Who wants exotic cuisine when good old British fare is this good. I was full before the plate was finished but cleared it anyway cos I loved it. Staff were friendly and efficient, food arrived quicker than expected and, my pet hate when it's not done, my plate was cleared away smartly to top it all they keep a good cellar here too. I enjoyed watching the football but if that's not your cuppa it's not intrusive. In the short time I was there they impressed me hugely. I'll be back next time I'm in Eastbourne. Well done and thanks to bar staff and chefs. Cheers

We have visited The Crown & Anchor before and I must say it's has improved every visit.
We decided to go there to eat for the first time while visiting Eastbourne.
It was a very cold wet evening, however the pub was warm and cosy with just a few customers. The young lady that served us was friendly and helpful.
The menu was added to with a specials board. I ordered cottage pie which it said it was homemade with vegetables.
I checked what vegetables as some places only give you peas.
However when the dinner arrived it was definitely a homemade Cottage Pie, it was in a large dish and came with four different Fresh Vegetables!!! Wow I love veg and always have to pay extra for it.
My husband ordered Scampi and he said it was very good. There was plenty too
I would have liked to have desert but was too full, there were lovely deserts, rhubarb crumble , jam pudding, bread and butter pub and lots more.
The two guys working behind the bar / food were friendly too
The drink choice / price was good so will certainly visit again soon.
