We were staying across the road from the Crown and Anchor so called in each day. We had a shared platter with drinks on the first day and returned for dinner the next night. The staff were very friendly and the food was superb, much better than the usual pub fare. It was too cold to sit outside but many people did so.

Poped in for lunch thinking we would get typical pub grub. Well how wrong could we have been. food was home made, amazing. just was blown away at the friendly service as well as the amazing food. Just could not praise them enough. Certainly will be back when in that part of the country. Thank you so much to all the staff.

A nice pub, right on the seafront, with friendly staff. You can sit outside and watch the world go by. Food is very good standard.

Spent a weekend in nearby B&B (The New England b&b - see separate review) and had lunch in this pub. The food was probably the best pub food I have had in a long time (should be classed as restaurant food), and very reasonably priced. All the staff were polite and although in the evening it was packed as it coincided with the annual torchlight procession and firework display my husband was served without having to wait. Also had a live group in the evening. Very good atmosphere with plenty of cask ales. We enjoyed the food so much that we went back for lunch the next day. Would not hesitate to recommend.

We were looking for somewhere to have a meal, and turned off the seafront to find this little gem tucked away. It looks a little like an old 'spit-and-sawdust' pub, but don't let the otside put you off. There was a very good, simple enu, and the food was very tasty indeed. My wife's half chicken with salad defeated her, as there was just so much meat! I had the homemade lasagne, with garlic bread, and it was very good indeed, and really did taste home made.
There are quite a few guest cask beers available. The hosts were totally polite and courteous, and were friendly with locals and tourists (like us) alike. All in all this was a wonderful meal in a surprising place.

We were staying at a nearby hotel, York House(separate review) and arrived late around 2:30 pm and this was only pub open for food and drink. We are from USA and wanted our first pub meal. But what a surprise with the tasty food they serve. Obviously, they have fish & chips but I had the lamb shank and it was great. My husband had the fish and chips and the chips portion is so huge so I got shard that too.
I have to add a great beer selection too. It was too cold so could not enjoy outdoor tables.

Went here for an evening meal while staying in Eastbourne. Welcomed on entry by a member of staff and nothing was too much trouble - given a taster of real ale to check it was to my liking. Menu was extensive and we both enjoyed our meals very much - they were very good value and the vegetables were cooked to perfection (for my taste - not over cooked!). Ale was well kept and a good choice - may have been lucky as they had a choice of 6 from the barrel - as just before the beer festival. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Although part of pub chain this Pub offers far more than others I have experienced in the group. Well done to the Crown and Anchor staff who strive to make it like the "local" and where you are a person and not just another number! You deserve to be supported!
Would recommend if you want good food and drink at a reasonable price!
