With friends down from Yorkshire and the midlands we were looking for a pub that was lively and served good food. We had tried out the Crown & Anchor the previous day but just had a drink (or two). We liked it and booked a table for the Friday night. Try to their promise the table was ready for us even though the pub was filling up rapidly. The food was excellent but the evening was made all the better by the staff. No frowning faces here, just perfect smiles and lots of banter. Our friends will be returning next March and have already indicated a night at the C&A is a must.
Can't say better than that.

Warm and welcoming, a splendid menu (plus a chalkboard of Specials) and a great list of beers and wines -- you can't want for more!
The environment is robust and cheery, the banter entertaining and the quality of the food (and quantity) outstanding.I hit on it by chance, but I'll be back!

Had dinner in there one night. It was cold outside and we just completed 14,000 steps, according to the Apple watch and we were knackered. So we decided to pop in to the Crown and Anchor for an evening meal. Glad we did. The food was top notch along with the service from Jakob. Food came quickly and boy, there was tons of it. All washed down with a pint of Peroni and a large glass of red wine. Very reasonable too. In fact, I did a double take to make sure all we had was on the bill. Was never rushed. We were just left alone to get on with the evenings proceedings. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone passing by. Pop in and grab a bite to eat. You won't regret it.

On a weekend stay In East Sussex had a trip to Eastbourne and had a lovely Sunday roast here. Plenty of meat, lovely selection of fresh veg, and lashings of gravy.
There was a good choice of specials on the menu too

If you are in Eastbourne you must visit the Crown and Anchor. Wonderful staff, wonderful food and good service. They have a specials board and a menu. All food is home cooked. Try the pie or lamb shank. The burgers are home made, try the stilton burger. Be careful the portions are huge with a good selection of veggies or salad. They have a good selection of wine. Visited twice in same weekend

Had lunch at The Crown And Anchor on Sunday with my family. I have to tell you I had probably the best steak pie I’ve ever eaten. The shortcrust pastry was so tasty. The juices of the gravy inside the pie had just seeped through the pastry casing and then cooked firm on the outside. Bueatifull. The amount of solid steak meat inside was more than the average. A very good portion served with the normal vegetables and a lovely home made thick gravy to accompany the dish.
Well recommended and worth a visit.

Cheerful and helpful staff behind the bar and serving the food. Good choice for all tastes with a specials board. I chose the homemade soup and roll which was very tasty and my husband had a main course which was all delivered to our table with a smile. My husband commented that the beer was a bit expensive but that might be because we are a bit out of touch.

After reading reviews on Fb we tried this place in the daytime for a drink and a game of pool first.
Loved the pub and staff were very welcoming.Decided to book a table for the same evening and even choose were we wanted to sit in the lounge part not the bar part which was lovely.
My partner had Roast chicken with Roast potatoes, fresh veg broccolli, cabbage, swede, carrots, stuffing and gravy. It looked lovely. My partner said it was red hot, tasty and cooked to an excellent standard. I had Steak and Ale pie. The steak was beautiful and I could definitely taste the Ale. This came with mash potatoes and the same veg as above with extra gravy. All was piping hot, very fresh and cooked to perfection.
Could not have faulted our meal at all. The only thing was we were too full to try the pudding which sounded and looked lovely. I had a bottled coke and my Partner has a pint of draft coke. The young lad behind the bar did tell us that the draft pint of coke was £5 before he poured it so we did have the chance not to have this if we didn't want it.
We had double Jd with coke and a double baileys with ice later which was over £15. But this in turn would not stop us from eating here hopefully again this week before going home. The food and atmosphere and friendly staff made up for the expensive drinks.

We ended up here as we were in Eastbourne for the weekend and looking for somewhere to eat that was dog friendly! We did not find many places in Eastbourne to be dog friendly at all! The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even bringing our dog some dog biscuits and a drink of water, a nice gesture. The menus was varied and catered for many different dieters. We ordered the vegetarian sharer and it was huge! It was all very nice and tasty, well prepared and well presented. We then ordered mains of lamb shank and a Stilton burger. Unfortunately the mains let themselves down, the lamb shank meal was over seasoned and did not have enough gravy, although the meat was tender and fell off the bone. The burger was inedible, very tough and salty! Most of the Stilton had soaked into the bread. The chips and salad were good and the homemade coleslaw was delicious. Our dog enjoyed some of the burger, but it was even difficult to cut so we gave up after a while. It’s a busy welcoming place, we would return but just avoid the burgers.
