Great place, music, gooood food, cold beers, excellent service...
But aircon should be turned on a thundery august night with football, pool and live music on...
And hard working staff should known cutlery, spices, before food is served...

But I'll be back...

pleasant but can be rowdy especially on weekends, the better pub is down the road a little. Why always so noisy?

I visited this boozer whilst recently on a short break in Eastbourne & would definitely visit it again when I next go there. The staff are friendly & very professional. We didn't have to wait long to get served. If I lived here, then I would make this pub my regular drinking place.

Had a short break here with my wife and ate her the first night. Food was good and great range of real ales as well. Weather was lousy though but that's nothing to do with the pub.

We here on a Saturday evening and there was a good mix of people. The food was very reasonably priced, good portion sizes and tasted yummy!
There was a band on; which was very good. They also had rugby on earlier in the evening. Our only recommendations are to open doors/ some sort of ventilation as it became extremely hot when the band was playing - so hot that we left a little earlier than we had planned.

Excellent selection of brews , food was really good. quite crowded due to the Airshow but still felt welcoming, you were not rushed out , could sit and enjoy a decent pint.

We went here on a midweek afternoon on a rainy day. Not too busy but still occupied - perfect. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the decor was clean and comfortable and conducive to relaxation. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive, and the food was just wonderful. Better, in fact, than most of the 'posh' restaurants I've been to.
Portions were huge - if we'd known they would be that big we wouldn't have had the starter (although that would have been a shame as it was also excellent), but staff will happily arrange a "doggy bag" for you. Good choice of starters and mains, can't comment on desserts as we were far too full to even think of wanting a third course!
We had fish pie, deliciously creamy with proper home-made mash and cheese topping. The side vegetables were the perfect complement and someone had clearly thought through flavours and textures - crisp and fluffy roast parsnips, mashed swede, leeks in a cheese sauce, carrots and fresh savoy cabbage all cooked to perfection with as much care and attention as the pie. A far cry from the usual pub-food offering of some over-boiled and clearly-unloved tubers and legumes peremptorily dumped on the side of the plate.
Nearby parking is limited but it's well worth a short walk. It's very close to the sea front as well, if you are on a day out, and the pier is not far away.
This is the first time I have ever been moved to review anywhere, but they completely earned it.
We will be making a bee-line for the Crown and Anchor next time we are in town.
