We had a lovely time, room was nice & spotless. Right opposite the beach & the pier. Within walking distance of everything, We had breakfast and dinner everyday at the hotel which was very nice. Staff were always friendly & couldn't do enough to help.
It was a great dancing weekend, look forward to returning next year.

Having just returned from the dance weekend mentioned in recent reviews I was very surprised to read some negative remarks from one of our group. We had a very happy weekend, with the helpful and friendly staff a major factor in creating a very enjoyable break. Of course the menu was not what could be expected of a five star hotel, but it was tasty and plentiful. I find it impossible to fault the Afton which offers extremely good value for money and we have already put our names down for next year.

We visited the hotel as part of a weekend coach trip. We were greeted on our arrival by the assistant manager who was pleasantness itself. This was the second year we have stayed at this hotel. We were in room 211 which on the second floor overlooks the entrance to the pier (I think it was the same room as last year). The room was clean and comfortable albeit a bit small. The shower was stimulating and the bathroom very clean. It is however in need of redecoration.

Dinner was very pleasant basic but quite tasty. The waiting staff were like little worker bees darting around but all very efficient. I would especially like to mention Stephen who was very attentive and saw to our every whim. Only one slight observation is that the cheese and biscuits could have done with a little celery and a few grapes. As served with no trimmings was unappealing. The dining room could do with a bit of TLC as in some areas paint is flaking off the walls.

Breakfasts were well cooked and enjoyable.

Only criticism was the noise made by drunken youths leaving the pier on Friday and Saturday nights. Loud and foul mouthed and fighting.

The price of drinks was on the expensive side and the drink for £2 between 7.30 and 11 pm was disappointing because of the 'offer' spirits and beers which were of inferior quality.

Overall our visit was made most pleasant by all of the staff and I would definitely return.

We have just returned from from Five nights stay at this Hotel. The hotel is situated 2mins from sea front and pier and five mins from town centre. The hotel public areas are very nice but starting to look a bit dated we had a nice room with a view of the pier. The room was very clean with tea & Coffee making facility's the rooms were cleaned every day and our towels replaced with clean ones there was plenty of hanging space and draws. The hotel staff were very friendly and nothing to much trouble. The breakfast was very good the evening meal was three course with a choice of starters evening meals and sweets. The food was well cooked and well presented but the portions could have been a bit larger. There was bingo on an a evening then a singer after. We didn't stop in on a evening so cannot comment on the quality of the entertainment. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Compared to other places to stay the price was very reasonable and a very tidy and great looking B and B,
Reception staff welcoming and efficient however this was not continued with service in the restaurant at breakfast, actively ignored and very little attention made from 1 particular member of the team, unfortunately this undid the great work the rest of the team did.
Excellent location to rest of resort.

Booked this hotel a couple of weeks ago as a last minute change of plans.Stayed on Saturday 2nd July for one night. For the bargain price we paid "I wasn't expecting much".What we got was.....Checking in.Fast and efficient by a smiling, informative happy chap at reception.A room basic and clean...BUT...had a fantastic view. 50 metres from the sea front, overlooking the pier and sea. Visited the hotel's bar after watching a tribute band at the bandstand. Euro Football was on t.v in the bar area, bliss for me,but you could go into a quieter area if not your cup of tea.The bar staff were very efficient and pub prices for the drinks ! A warm evening so had the window open all night and did not get woken once through noise, beds to my taste and comfortable.Breakfast in the morning, quite basic but tasty and enough to set you up for the day, waitress very efficient and attentive.Checking out, over in a few seconds after the receptionist had enquired if all was ok with our stay.Overall a lovely stay at a basic small hotel with great staff. Will I be a returning customer ? For the same experience + £ 40.00 on top of what we paid.Absolutely yes....(" I wasn't expecting that").

The hotel was booked through a travel site and the choice was made based on price, location and room facilities. The pictures on the main site are accurate and the location is central for the pier and beaches.

Firstly, there is no parking at the hotel, although they will sell a ticket for on-street parking if you can find a space. (Make sure you get the ticket when you drop off).

The hotel is not modern but the room we had was clean with relatively modern furniture, a comfortable bed, flat screen TV and an internal very small en-suite with a wc, a basin with no mixer tap and a shower.

Everything was fine with the room, except the shower had low pressure, which meant the mixer tap was unable to maintain a consistent temperature. We did mention this at checkout and received a "we'll fix it for the next guests"!

In the evening there is entertainment, which we did not see but there is a large area for this, They have a stocked bar, with nice seating areas.

Breakfast is a small buffet for cereals, juices, etc, with table service for hot food once we managed to find a waitress. The full English is one each of egg, bacon, sausage, tinned tomato and beans. Plenty of toast and tea and the staff are friendly.

I arranged a group to the Afton Hotel recently. All the members of my WI party were extremely pleased with the hotel. For the very affordable price the rooms are spacious, clean and in good order. The most memorable thing for all will be the customer service. The staff were all friendly, welcoming and keen to make the stay a pleasant one for each person. Nothing was too much trouble: booking restaurants, recommending walks, attending to little extra details that people wanted. The food provided was good and very affordable. Group organisers: you can rely on this hotel.
