Visited this hotel about 2 years ago and am now able to see how improvements have continued to all of the rooms at this establishment. This is now a fairly solid 3 star hotel in an excellent location on the seafront close to the Town Centre. My visit was part of a value for money package which included 4 free drinks on the Saturday Evening. All rooms seem have have been upgraded to flat screen TV so this is now standard and any other upgrades relate to the size of the screen. My single room on the fourth floor of the hotel had a side view of the beach at no extra charge. Staff were friendly and unobtrusive. The only negative was that one of their lifts was out of action for the duration of my stay. A little patience was required.

Just spent a Christmas break with Shearings. Our first time at the Burlington. We updated to a Sea View Room (319) which was a lovely big room with a shower. Couldn't fault the hotel at all - good food - brilliant entertainment - friendly staff. Would definitely go there again. I do agree with some other comments that the hotel could do with being updated and a makeover although all the Shearings Hotels I have been to need a refurbishment. The only other thing was that the downstairs entertainment area got too hot and perhaps some ceiling fans would make a difference

Just returned from this hotel our first time with Shearings and first time at this hotel, our room was overlooking the back of the hotel we were on the 4th floor not a very inviting room décor was very bland and the hotel was painted in gun metal grey everywhere rooms, corridoors, toilets, no warm feelings at all, even the lifts were painted grey small lift only took 2 people and only 4 in the other one the food was very bland not much choice at all we had chicken both nights as I don't like lamb and the batter on the fish looked mushy and after talking to other guest my feelings were justified the soup would have been ok for a baby as it was all pureed down and so thick don't know who the cook was but needed a few cooking lessons. At breakfast we helped ourselves but not much chioice again and were not given a pot of tea or coffee just a mug not very inviting at all we felt as if we were back in the 50s at a holiday camp. Considering this is a shearings hotel I would have expected better this was a 2 day breakaway costing £79 good value you would think but sadly not our room was ok but the radiator in the bathroom didn't work and the radiator in the room was under the window so the room was cold the bed was comfy though, I would not entertain telling my friends to visit this hotel until Shearings get it updated Cannot comment on sea view rooms but guess they could be a little better. I think Shearings have invested in a supply of gun metal paint!!!

We stayed four days & had no hot water or heating we wasn't inform by staff we were told by other guest , manage not helpful sound bored when talking to you,
We had a Sea view room which we paid for was very nice & clean very dull in decor
Food was ok not much choice, waiter was rushed of his feet so food just put on table for us to sort who's was who's ,
Entertainment wasn't much on new year eve there was a dj , comedian & a guitarist player who were ok but they all did the same songs so we heard same songs 3 times ,
Then they were still playing music at2.30 in the morning some guest complained saying it was staff.
No soft seating down in tepee lounge area so couldn't relax with paper & cuppa
We been to 4 different hotels with shearing & this was the worst , that bad we never going again,

The Burlington is supposedly the best hotel in Eastbourne however it is sadly in need of some serious money spending on it since internally it's really sad and in dire need of brightening up.

I can't fault the food in the restaurant; both the breakfasts and the three-course evening meals offered enough choice to satisfy the pickiest eater and the quality of the food was superb even if a little on the cool side at times.

By far the worst thing for me was my bumpy, lumpy bed resulting in poor quality sleep on each of the four nights I spent there.

The floorboards shook each time someone walked along the floor.

The water pressure was so poor in the shower and it was very difficult to control the temperature resulting in extremely poor bathing experiences.

This hotel is ideally situated along the seafront and in very close proximity to local buses and the pier.

Returned to the burlington, we had a bargain 5 day break, with national holidays this time. Once again no complaints whatsoever. Our journey down to Eastbourne was quick and easy, no hold ups or delays and the same on our return although bad weather had been predicated. As always experienced in our previous visits we had a good time. The hotel was warm and the bedrooms are quite comfortable, and the food is more than adequate, buffet breakfast, with cereal etc., full English always plenty for everyone, toast etc, the waitress service was good, bea, was a lovely girl, pleasant always smiling, and a word for everyone, couldn't fault her at all., she served the evening meal with a smile every night. The entertainment was good, bingo, quiz dancing and cabaret every evening, mark is the main man, he is liked by everyone and tries to make everyone enjoy themselves. The weather was good, a bit rain, but it is January!! All in all a very good break, will return again without any hesitation. See you all soon!!

Having done many Shearing breaks over the years, we decided to take our dad for a break on the 1st weekend of January. Despite asking for a room with disabled access, the room had a small step leading into it. Also, the toilet and shower had no handrails so it was quite difficult for our dad as he is used to a shower seat at home. He did manage to shower but only after we put plastic over the chair in the room and put it in the shower tray.

There was no wheelchair access to the reception area. Instead, you have to enter through the dining room. This proved quite difficult on arrival as the taxi driver did not know about this entrance. Dad can fortunately mobilise but it was difficult to negotiate suitcases, a walking frame and and a folded wheelchair up the few steps.

The meals were ok with a reasonable choice for the 3 courses. The breakfast service is much better now it has become buffet style. Even though there is a very wide variety of cereals and cooked food, there is also an option to order something from the kitchen.

As we have been on other Shearing holidays, the entertainment can be hit and miss but on this occasion,it was very good, if a little cheesy.

You have to sign up to cloud for WiFi access. Despite signing up, I didn't get access but I wasn't bothered by this.

The reception and eating areas were very welcoming. The bar was also reasonably priced with a good choice of wines, spirits and cocktails.

Some of the TVs are very old, showing only 5 channels. Some of our group had modern, flatscreen TVs with Freeview so there is evidence these are being replaced.

My biggest concern are the hallways and rooms which are in need of refurbishment. The corridor where the majority of our group stayed, including my dad,had a musty, damp smell. The carpets were also worn. I also understand, a few of the bathrooms leaked causing problems for the properties above and below.

Overall, a very pleasant weekend break, but rooms and corridors are in need of refurbishment. Also needs a ramp as well as steps by the main entrance.
