Compared to other places to stay the price was very reasonable and a very tidy and great looking B and B,
Reception staff welcoming and efficient however this was not continued with service in the restaurant at breakfast, actively ignored and very little attention made from 1 particular member of the team, unfortunately this undid the great work the rest of the team did.
Excellent location to rest of resort.

Booked this hotel a couple of weeks ago as a last minute change of plans.Stayed on Saturday 2nd July for one night. For the bargain price we paid "I wasn't expecting much".What we got was.....Checking in.Fast and efficient by a smiling, informative happy chap at reception.A room basic and clean...BUT...had a fantastic view. 50 metres from the sea front, overlooking the pier and sea. Visited the hotel's bar after watching a tribute band at the bandstand. Euro Football was on t.v in the bar area, bliss for me,but you could go into a quieter area if not your cup of tea.The bar staff were very efficient and pub prices for the drinks ! A warm evening so had the window open all night and did not get woken once through noise, beds to my taste and comfortable.Breakfast in the morning, quite basic but tasty and enough to set you up for the day, waitress very efficient and attentive.Checking out, over in a few seconds after the receptionist had enquired if all was ok with our stay.Overall a lovely stay at a basic small hotel with great staff. Will I be a returning customer ? For the same experience + £ 40.00 on top of what we paid.Absolutely yes....(" I wasn't expecting that").

The hotel was booked through a travel site and the choice was made based on price, location and room facilities. The pictures on the main site are accurate and the location is central for the pier and beaches.

Firstly, there is no parking at the hotel, although they will sell a ticket for on-street parking if you can find a space. (Make sure you get the ticket when you drop off).

The hotel is not modern but the room we had was clean with relatively modern furniture, a comfortable bed, flat screen TV and an internal very small en-suite with a wc, a basin with no mixer tap and a shower.

Everything was fine with the room, except the shower had low pressure, which meant the mixer tap was unable to maintain a consistent temperature. We did mention this at checkout and received a "we'll fix it for the next guests"!

In the evening there is entertainment, which we did not see but there is a large area for this, They have a stocked bar, with nice seating areas.

Breakfast is a small buffet for cereals, juices, etc, with table service for hot food once we managed to find a waitress. The full English is one each of egg, bacon, sausage, tinned tomato and beans. Plenty of toast and tea and the staff are friendly.

This hotel is opposite to the pier, in the same corner you can find shops, restaurants, pubs and only with 1£ per day you can park like permit holder around the hotel.
The staff is very nice and the room are quite clean, the breakfast was good too.
For us perfect value.

I arranged a group to the Afton Hotel recently. All the members of my WI party were extremely pleased with the hotel. For the very affordable price the rooms are spacious, clean and in good order. The most memorable thing for all will be the customer service. The staff were all friendly, welcoming and keen to make the stay a pleasant one for each person. Nothing was too much trouble: booking restaurants, recommending walks, attending to little extra details that people wanted. The food provided was good and very affordable. Group organisers: you can rely on this hotel.

Have just returned from a weekend in Eastbourne with relatives. We had 4 rooms in the Afton on a Saturday night, three doubles and a single. The single was for me and was clean, the bed was comfortable and very good value at £35 (without breakfast), it was a quiet room as the window was on the inside of the building and not facing the sea front. There was tea and coffee and a kettle in the room, with a hairdryer, a large TV and soap, (no other toiletries provided). Shower worked fine but was a bit small, had to have the door open to wash properly and to bend down to pick up shampoo etc. The other three rooms were all doubles, but my family said that they were all good, clean, comfy etc. but one had very hard pillows, one had a completely broken and unusable shower, and they all said it was VERY noisy outside as they all had rooms facing the seafront, and being a Saturday night and as the hotel is bang opposite the pier, there were lots of younger people drag racing along the sea front in cars and bikes, and shouting and general partying going on outside, kept them all awake I'm afraid, but that was not the hotel's fault. Staff helpful and friendly. We did not get the rooms we were promised when booking which was direct with the hotel over the telephone as 2 of the 4 rooms were supposed to have a balcony, none of our rooms had a balcony. These were just gripes, generally we were all happy, but the shower was not too much of an issue as we had multiple rooms so the unfortunate couple borrowed one of the other showers. If you was staying there on your own with no shower for me that would have been a disaster. The hotel did have free wi-fi but they said it was only in the bar and reception area, I did actually get on line in my room. The lift is small, slow, hot and claustrophobic, but worked. Would have preferred to use the stairs, but we were on the 3rd floor, so suffered the lift. In conclusion we all said we would go back, and probably will, as this is a clean and comfortable reasonably priced hotel in a great location, just some rooms are noisy.

Wouldn't put yourself forward for "Four in a bed" anytime soon. Could have had a banquet using the flies off the bathroom window sill. Must be a shortage of toilet rolls in Eastbourne too. Had to ask twice in 3 days. Food ok but don't expect too much choice. Location good if you want to be woken up by bin men at 5.30 am and screaming boy racers at 2 am.
