We went here for Sunday lunch based on Trip Advisor recommendations, and I have to admit to being a bit disappointed. We tried the roast beef which, I suspect, a cheap cut. The meat in between the large quantities of connective tissue was tender, but the whole was too chewy to enjoy. One of us had the roast half chicken (and we are talking about a full sized chicken - huge). The leg was excellent but the breast was dry. The homemade Yorkshire pud had been microwaved and the roast potatoes were a bit hard. However, the veggies were excellent - broccoli, creamed leeks, roast parsnip, buttered swede mash, and more besides. The service was also very good, as were the facilities. Surprisingly quiet for a Sunday lunchtime.

We went to the pub 3 times in 24 hours...! All for different reasons but we were pleasantly surprised every time. The first was to grab a drink before we got ready to go out for dinner. The service was quick and friendly and there were a couple of pool tables in the back which we utilised! The second time was for an after dinner tipple and, again, the service was speedy and there was a brilliant atmosphere with a live singer. We sat outside and had a lovely evening! Finally we went for breakfast and the food quality was excellent. An all-round nice pub with lovely staff and buzzing atmosphere.

The food was just fantastic! Well worth the wait. Plenty of room, however upstairs was booked (was during the World Cup) and the back/pool room is not very attractive. Very good service and excellent choice of ales. Kids menu also available. Just on the Eastbourne seafront.

I sat right on the seafront watching the passing parade and enjoying a mediterranean platter which was amazing. So much food, great value for money and the biggest olives I have ever seen !

Had their Boston Burger. Fabulous. The side salad was amazing, the chips cooked perfectly and the burger itself really good.

Good pub near the seafront. Some seating at the front of the pub allowing you to watch the world go by. Friendly staff.

Mrs Too and I walked along the beachfront to the Crown and Anchor in Eastbourne at lunchtime. The entry to this busy pub is very welcoming, with three or four tables for seafront eating/quaffing while enjoying people watching. The tap room has a vibrant ambience, and the bar is set up efficiently. The walls are decorated with little placcards expressing quaint notions such as "Beauty Is In the Eyes of the Beerholder" and "Experience Is the Name We Give To Our Mistakes". We opted for the rear party deck as somewhat quieter on a Sunday afternoon. The little patio is cozy, but the views are pretty punk from back there.
She was in the mood for a half pint, so I went to the bar to see what was available. The most agreeable barman made a suggestion and drew me a couple of inches to offer her. She liked it so well that she got her half, and Ben asked for a snake bite drawn from the same tap. Both of us were quite pleased.
Even though it was lunchtime, we ordered the roast beef Sunday dinner. We are pretty persnickety beefeaters, so perhaps it was just good luck, but we certainly did not experience any of the shortcomings voiced by other reviewers. In the U.S., roast beef most often refers to meat around the ribs in the loin. In the U.K., we find it is usually top round, and in the case of Crown and Anchor the meat was superb. Now roast beef is hardly going to be considered haute cuisine, but it is not all that easy to get it just right, which ours was. The Yorkshire pudding was enormous and piping. The accompaniments were well done. We can’t think of any way our meals could have been improved upon.
