When we first visited room all looked fine and had a wonderful view of the sea front. First night stay the radiator kept making a dripping noise and loud banking noise. No sleep. Went down to reception at three in the morning to see if I could get help. Nothing can be done till 7.15. Reception staff said she would get maintenance guy to come and look. That took till Saturday afternoon. When got back to room the radiator was on full heat making room very uncomfortable but noise had stopped. But couldn’t turn heating down. Several visits to reception we final got moved to another room on night 2 thanks to a member of staff that cared about our stay. Breakfast was good but small plates so you couldn’t get a lot on the plate. Evening menu wasn’t great not a lot of choose and no Chardonnay or decent beer at the bar.

I stayed half-board at this hotel and was pleased with the location and price. The outside of the hotel is a bit off-putting (paint is flaking-off etc). However, things improved inside. Check-in was quick. I was given a double room which was a bit dated, but was a good size (the tv was very small). Unfortunately, I was unable to sleep due to the cheap mattress (I could feel the springs through the mattress), so went down to reception in the early hours and spoke with the night porter. After being given the keys (and checking a few rooms), I ended up in a ‘newly refurbished’ room. This room was a vast improvement on the previous room I had been given and most importantly, the mattress was comfortable.
There is ongoing work on Grand Parade and the side road (where the hotel is located). The workmen tended to start work around 7am, so no lie-in!

I found all members of staff to be friendly and helpful. I thought the breakfast and evening meals were good value, too. I would stay here again.

Good WiFi, modernised room, comfy bed, nice large room, friendly welcome, no mattress protector (was surprising), plenty of sockets near bed for devices. Great breakfast!

My elderly parents needed a short break and we booked a room here. What made it a positive experience for myself and my olds was the two wonderful ladies at reception. Both could not have been more kind and helpful when dealing with them and me, both are a credit to the hotel. Thank you both for being so caring.

We recently stayed at the Burlington Hotel and overall found it to be a good value-for-money option in a fantastic location.

The hotel itself is quite old and a little dated, but it has a certain charm. The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression. The lifts are wonderfully quirky and old-fashioned, adding to the character of the building.

Our twin room was a pleasant surprise, especially the lovely sea view. The room had all the essentials and was spotlessly clean, which is always a big positive. That said, some of the electrics looked a little sketchy and could probably do with updating. We also didn’t have housekeeping the whole time of our stay…not sure if that’s the norm or if our room was simply forgotten. We had to request a clean towel midway through which was delivered but no one came into our room to make beds, change towels or remove rubbish.

One challenge during our stay was the temperature of the room. It was extremely hot — more like a sauna — and we discovered the thermostat downstairs was set to 24°C, which felt excessive for mild spring weather. Someone must be happy paying big heating bills! Reception explained that someone older may have requested the heating on, but unfortunately it didn’t seem possible to adjust it in our room. We tried opening the window, but on the first morning a pigeon flew straight into the room, so we couldn’t risk leaving it open any further! Reception staff did kindly bring us a fan to take the edge off however having the heating off would have been most helpful. The lady at reception when we left really didn’t seem bothered about our complaint, which was a shame as everyone else seemed quite attentive

Breakfast offered a good range of choices and is entirely self-service, including a full English along with plenty of other options. Service in the dining room varied depending on who was on duty: one member of staff was incredibly energetic and kept everything running smoothly, while another seemed a bit slower, meaning plates piled up and tables weren’t cleared as quickly.

During our stay we also had to report a strong smell of cannabis on our floor, which lingered for several days before seeming to move elsewhere in the hotel. It wasn’t particularly pleasant having to walk through that smell regularly.

That said, the location is excellent — right on the seafront and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and the town centre.

Overall: If you’re looking for a budget-friendly stay in a prime seaside location, the Burlington is a solid choice. It may be a little dated and have a few quirks, but the cleanliness, friendly staff and unbeatable location make it worth considering. 🌊🏨

Sadly not what we expected, first the good bits, breakfast was great and plentiful both cooked and continental.
We only had two evening. meals but they were good and the menu changes daily.
The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately there are plenty of bad bits, the building is really in a bad way ,torn and stained carpets everywhere, torn furniture in reception ,numerous repairs everywhere that hadn't been finished. The housekeeping was non existent but was advertised as daily they only came to our room once after we made three requests but no cleaning was done just topped up milk and tea the bathroom was never cleaned, windows didnt fit it was noisy and windy all night, the hotel needs a serious looking at

This was our third stay at The Burlington and is now our "go to". Some earlier reviews are poor but we disagree. Ok, views out from the rear bedrooms are not great, overlooking a service road, the car park and lots of bird poo but this is a seafront hotel where there are many seagulls. Besides, it's inside that's important, if you want a nice view, pay more for a seaview. Our room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. Our only gripe is that the (walk in) shower took 10 minutes to warm up. The hotel is a little dated and the lift is tiny but we found everywhere clean and the staff helpful. The entertainment was good as is the location and it has a private car park. We will return.
