This is such a wonderful, traditional seaside pier upon which most of the original fixtures and buildings have survived and have been sensitively and attractively restored. Entry is free. Please note that one is not allowed to eat one's one picnics upon the pier. We didn't see the notices and were (politely) told off! I suppose that this is fair enough given the rents that the pier cafés have to pay.

It's quite a small pier a few food and ice cream shops at the beginning and a band playing at the bottom of the pier

You will get similar vibes like Brighton. Really nice one. Go for live music at the beach side. That's open until 4

The pier was ok, a lot of empty stalls and such a shame that you can't take dogs on the pier. I would understand if they said not in the arcades and buildings, but on the pier itself seems a bit harsh.

I like the pier, unlike some of the other seaside piers on the south coast it's not just full of amusement arcades. There are a variety of shops and eateries in addition to the amusements. The bar towards the end of the pier with outside seating are my fav. The pier is in condition and the seating all along the pier are clean unlike some other piers. Free to stroll along, feed the gulls and see the sea, no excuse really.
