DUNDEE WOMEN AHEAD CHOOSE THE FAIRY BOX AS THEIR CHARITY SUPPORT FOR THE COMING YEAR AT THEIR AGM

The Women Ahead AGM was held at the Apex Hotel at the end of March to enable the handover of Chair and election of the new committee for the coming year. Women Ahead has a committee of 12 members who bring a wealth of talent and skills to the group.

At the AGM it was announced that the Fairy Box Charity  was to be the supported charity of Women Ahead for 2011/2012.

The Fairy Box  was the brainchild of Rosie Butler and exists to support ill children in hospital, their families and the staff involved in their care. It started as a regional charity and now operates nationally in 15 hospitals and is entirely dependent on public donations in support of the work it does. Dundee Women Ahead will donate Fairy Boxes  locally to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The heart of the charity's work is the Fairy Box itself - a themed gift box which sits in children's wards and is filled with small gifts of books, toys and games.  When children are feeling sad or low, they can get access to a personal gift to help towards their recovery.  On a busy children's ward, Fairy Box can provide up to 3,000 gifts a year.  The average cost of stocking a Fairy Box is £350.00 so this may involve restocking up to 10 times over the year.

At Women Ahead we look forward to supporting this excellent charity to help children cope better with the trauma of hospital treatment. Our goal is to raise both funds and awareness so we can help fill as many boxes as possible over the next year.

Women Ahead would love to hear from you if you can offer help in any way.  Contact Sharron McIntosh Chair of Women Ahead at
