Nativity! is Coventry’s very own Christmas Blockbuster!
Well, did anyone notice back in the late spring when celebrities flocked to Coventry (together with school children and a couple of camels!) to film a festive feel-good flick, Nativity!?
This new British comedy was directed by local Coventry girl, Debbie Isitt, who along with Nick Jones, are the inspiration behind this year’s Christmas blockbuster filmed on location right here in Coventry and also in L.A.
The movie is released on December 4th and is a heart warming tale of how nothing will dampen the true spirit of Christmas.
Directed and conceived by Debbie Islitt, a local Coventry kid, Nativity! is an improvised comedy starring Martin Freeman, Ashley Jensen, Marc Wootton and Jason Watkins.
It’s the story of two schools and their bitter rivalry to achieve a 5-star review for their Christmas nativity play between a frustrated under-achieving primary school teacher, Mr Maddens (Martin Freeman), and his long-time rival, Mr. Shakespeare (Jason Watkins), a teacher in the posh independent school up the road. Maddens’ ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lore (Ashley Jenson) happens to be a big-time Hollywood Producer, and when Maddens boasts to Shakespeare that Hollywood is coming to Coventry because Jennifer wants to make a movie starring his school kids, suddenly Maddens has got more Mary and Josephs than he can handle and he’s caught up in a something that he can only get out of if he can persuade Jennifer to make Hollywood pay attention and make all their dreams come true! Get your tissues out, as it sounds like it'll hit youe soft spot!
So come on Coventry – give Debbie Islitt and her movie, Nativity! your support and go and watch it when it hits the cinemas!
