It’s Rugby in Coventry Reborn!

Coventry RFC – Press Statement

Coventry Rugby Club has launched a programme aimed at bringing its supporters and the city’s community back into the heart of the club.

The board of the new company, Coventry Rugby Limited, realise they have a huge hill to climb after rescuing the club from administration. Apart from maintaining the club’s status in the Championship, the board recognises that their priority must be to raise capital urgently to underpin the business.
With that in mind, the board is looking to raise additional funding of up to £250,000, ensuring that the future of the club will not be in the hands of a sole owner.

All investors will become life members and will receive a number of benefits, including access to international tickets. This scheme effectively restores “ownership” of the club to a wider group of its supporters. Potential investors could be individuals, groups or companies.

Backing has already been pledged by businessman, Jon Bowles, who has invested an undisclosed sum to secure the club’s immediate future. Based on the south coast, Mr Bowles is interested in promoting the community side of the club as well as its future on the field.

In addition to establishing the trading arm, the club will set up a foundation, Coventry Rugby Foundation, which will hold the main assets and set up the community side of the business, which is regarded as imperative for its future. The new board are determined that all revenue earned by the club will stay in the club and be used for its benefit.

The new board comprises of Peter Rossborough (President), John Maguire, Chris Gregory, Andrew Carpenter, Bob Curtis, Nick Newbold and Jim Ashby with a company secretary/ financial controller also already appointed.

The playing side remains under the control of Director of Rugby, Phil Maynard and General Manager, Michael Doyle looks after back office operations. Both have been absolutely steadfast in guiding the club through difficult times in recent months. The board of Coventry Rugby Limited aims to draw a line under the past and move forward with strength, unanimity and business acumen to secure the future of one of England’s greatest teams.  > Ends
