Article written by Simon O’Rourke:

What a year! I’ve competed this year in Denmark, Germany (twice), Canada and the UK (twice). I’ve represented my country in Canada and Denmark, and I’ve represented Europe in Germany. Across the 6 international competitions I have had two 3rd places and two 1st places!

I’ve been a full time chainsaw artist for 2 years now and it never ceases to amaze me what can be created using this violent and unforgiving machine! My passion for sculpture has gone from strength to strength and will continue to take me on this amazing journey.

One of the most rewarding things about this art-form has been working in schools, and seeing the look of pure enjoyment and concentration on the children’s faces as they watch the transformation of a raw log to a beautiful sculpture.

I’m also pleased to announce the upcoming chainsaw carving courses that are available to beginners and advanced carvers. I already have a lot of interest, including several full time professional carvers wanting to know about the advanced courses.

So all in all a fun filled year with other events and demonstrations scattered between competitions. All the works produced at these events are available to view in the gallery section of my website, and commissions for any size and type of carving can be ordered through thebestofchester or www.treecarving.co.uk
