It wasn’t a fundraiser for the fainthearted, but Nicola Cuggy, Trainee Solicitor at Hillyer McKeown was up for the challenge when she agreed to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats to help raise awareness for Hoylake Cottage. Nicola cycled over 1000 miles as part of the organised trip, taking 15 days to complete the end to end journey.

“The trip was amazing” said Nicola. “My personal highlights had to be passing through some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen, cycling over the Severn Bridge and the final leg from Fort William to John O’Groats, as I’d never travelled this part of the country before.”

“It was tough going at times, the most challenging factor being the weather as we had days when the rain was relentless. The camping was an experience too. After a long day cycling a warm bed and a roof would have been welcome; I hadn’t accounted for how cold it would be sleeping under canvas.” Said Nicola.

“I’m so pleased I took part though and I was thrilled to complete the challenge. As hard as it was at times the fact that I was raising money for a cause which is so close to my heart really helped me to stay focused, and I’m delighted that I was able to raise over £500 for Hoylake Cottage.”

Nicola continued “Dementia has been a very prominent issue in my family over the last 12 months and it’s thanks to the good work of organisations like Hoylake Cottage that we’ve had somewhere to turn to for support.”

Sarah Green, Community Fundraiser for Hoylake Community said: “Nicola’s achievement is fantastic and I’d like to say a big thank you on behalf of everyone at Hoylake Cottage. It sounds like an exhausting challenge and we are very grateful that she has chosen to dedicate her efforts to benefit our residents and day care users.”

As for her next challenge, Nicola is already finding out about a possible trip to climb Mount Kilamanjaro “I’d just like to give the bike a rest for a while” said Nicola.
