Dizzy Jet joins the rotary in bringing smiles to the countess

Children at the countess of Chester welcomed a few new faces to the ward when members of the Rotary Club of Saughall, local business Bell Developments and the Cheshire Jets basketball team paid a visit to the children’s ward earlier in the week to hand over much wanted toys to the playroom.

Dizzy the Cheshire Jets 8ft inflatable team mascot also made the special trip out to the hospital to make sure the children were entertained as he handed out t-shirts and medals along with assistant coach John Lavery.

Mike Bell owner of Bell Developments was the initial contact between the Jets and the event organiser Kathy Ford a Chester mother whose son Jack has been a regular patient at the countess.

Kathy said;

"I am very grateful to Saughall Rotary, Cheshire Jets and Mike Bell for supporting this wonderful event; it was amazing to see all the happy faces on the day. Having spent time on the ward with Jack, I see firsthand how hard all staff work to keep children happy and calm in what is a very stressful environment for a child"

Rotary Club President Beryl Cotton added;

“It was marvellous to visit the ward, see the playroom and know that the Club's donation of craft items and toys was going to be used to full advantage by the children. The Club are proud to be helping the local community and delighted to be able to support the brave children on the Ward and hope that the goodies will cheer them up and give them lots of pleasure whilst they are on the Ward.”

Peter Hawkins Director of the Jets added;

“It’s not very often you’ll see an 8ft basketball doing the rounds at the countess, we hope that his visit brought a smile to the faces of the brave children on the ward. The Rotarians have done a fantastic job in raising the funds for the playroom, the toys and crafts will make a difference to the children being treated at the countess.”

Mike Bell of Bell Developments said;

“I could see the kids enjoyed it and the adults too. I do think we have made a difference and hope other organisations may do the same. As a member of Saughall Rotary we will continue to support the ward and other charities in the future.”
