An employer must give reasonable consideration to an employee's explanation for misconduct no matter how far-fetched that explanation may seem. An employer must fully investigate all the circumstances surrounding a disciplinary matter, including any explanation provided by an employee for their behaviour, in order to avoid a finding of unfair dismissal.
