O'Reilly cool on hot Jets

Colin O’Reilly is warning Cheshire Jets still have plenty to prove in coming weeks and months even though they added to their terrific run in the BBL Championship by securing a place in the BBL Cup semi-finals over the weekend.

The Irish star got hot from the perimeter against Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders after pouring in 29 points to help his team complete an impressive 109-100 success but after the win he was quick to dampen any prospects of the club getting too carried away.

“It was a tough game against the Riders and any game against a team coached by Rob Paternostro is always like that.”

“We got into foul trouble early and had to use a six man rotation and maybe we didn’t quite finish things off as we would have liked.”

“Still, a win is a win and finally I made some shots when I had a real run during the second quarter and fortunately they all pretty much dropped for me. We also did some serious damage with our pick and roll.”

“The key for me though is that we don’t get carried away. Reaching a semi-final and being 5-0 in the league is great but the truth is, we have had a great run of home games which has given us confidence and some momentum but we now need to prove ourselves on the road.”

Having lost two showpiece BBL finals last season, O’Reilly believes those bitter-sweet experiences will give the Jets the extra drive required to be successful in their BBL Cup semi-final as the players seek a chance to put things right.

“The goal of the club is always to win games and to try and win a trophy. Everyone in the camp is working really hard to find success and obviously we got close last year.”

“With more hard work and putting together some results on the road, maybe we can make an impression again and learn from our experiences last year.”

“When the semi-final comes we will have plenty of motivation to succeed.”

Arrangements are being made for the semi-finals which will be played over two legs. We will send through details of the tie as soon as they are finalised.
