Marketing Cheshire has just launched a brand new publication featuring a series of themed walking tours available for visitors and residents to enjoy throughout the year.

Annual favourites like the Secret Chester tour that unlocks the towers on the City Walls and the Christmas Tour that uncovers the origins of the festive season and its traditions are joined by a host of new guided walks including Victorian Chester that steps back in time to the days of Music Hall, gaslight and trams.

Another new starter is Monks, Middens and Mysteries that's timed to coincide with Chester Mystery Plays and takes visitors back to the Middle Ages for a revealing insight into mediaeval life in the City.

There are 21st century delights to savour on the Chester Taste and Treats tour with an opportunity to enjoy the food and drink of Cheshire at a variety of local outlets, while the Pubs Past and Present guided walk visits historic inns around the city.

Shopaholics are sure to enjoy the History of Retail in a city with wall-to-wall stores and there's more retail fun on offer in The Ups and Downs of Chester's Rows, exploring the unique 700 year old two-tier marvels that make the City so special.

Fresh air lovers will relish a leisurely Chester's Gardens and Green Spaces tour around the city's natural attractions.

There are alfresco delights on the Walls Walks exploring the most complete ramparts of any city in Britain, while history lovers can go deeper into Roman heritage on the Fortress Deva tour or find out about life during the Civil War, when the city was under siege for 2 years.

Architectural aficionados will adore Chester In Black and White looking at the development of the buildings that give Chester its unique character and atmosphere and equally well served are fans of 'things that go bump in the night' with perennial favourite The Ghost Tour.

The new Chester Walking Tours leaflet is available from the Town Hall Visitor Information Centre and local hotels. It's also featured on visitchester.com.

Mary Ann Cameron, Chair of the Chester Guild of Tour Guide says: "We are delighted with the new format of the guided tours brochure. It certainly shows what a marvellous place Chester is to explore on foot with a qualified and informative local Guide. The choice of tours will please just about everybody coming to visit Chester, or local people just wanting to know more about the history and heritage of their own city".
