This week Amy Pownall, Solicitor at Hillyer McKeown and Richard Linton 2nd Year Trainee, delivered a presentation to the 1st Year Law students studying at Chester University, as part of their English Legal Systems and Skills Course.

The presentation which covered the different routes that Amy and Richard have taken to qualification gave the students tips on how to get started in pursuing a career as a solicitor, as well as advice on securing training contracts and points to consider about pursuing a career in law.

Amy commented “This is the third time in as many years that I have been asked back to the University to deliver this presentation. As a Firm, Hillyer McKeown feel it’s extremely important to continue to develop strong links with the University and this is just one of the ways in which we can do so”.

Phil Hunter, Deputy Head of the University of Chester Law School said “I am very grateful to Hillyer McKeown for the ongoing support that they provide to the Law School. Amy Pownall and Richard Linton provided a fascinating and informative talk to our LLB students about the type of work that they undertake in a busy regional law firm. They also, just as importantly, provided useful tips and guidance on how our LLB students can become strong candidates for future employment in the legal sector. This type of talk is invaluable to young undergraduate law students in what is a very competitive market place.”
