Dazzling Christmas Fayre rounds off a busy year of charitable work at Nelson Hotels

2011 was an extremely busy year of charity work for Nelson Hotels, rounded off in style with The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa’s dazzling charity Christmas Fayre on the 15th November.  The event raised an amazing £1,300 for hotel’s headline charity, Nicola’s Fund, a cause which aims to improve the quality of life for children with cancer.

The family-owned hotel group offers much needed support to numerous charities, both close to home and further afield, assisting their fundraising efforts in a variety of ways. The most ‘extreme’ form of fundraising to date came earlier this year when Amy Nelson, spa director of The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa, bravely took on a daring skydive. Amy’s daredevil dive raised  £1,500 for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, a cause very close to the Nelson family heart since Amy herself overcame treatment and an operation to remove cervical cancer.

Another cancer charity to benefit from the hotel group’s philanthropic nature was The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, which received support from Nelson Hotels via the Medicash Celebrity Golf Classic fundraiser. In addition to co-sponsoring the popular golfing event, a fantastic luxury spa break for two at The Grosvenor Pulford was donated, raising over £1,800 in the prize draw.

Other worthy causes to benefit from the support of the Nelson Hotels team in 2011 include the NeuroMuscular Centre (NMC), Wales Air Ambulance, Children in Need,Charity VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) and even a local child suffering from the rare Smith Magenis Syndrome.

Lucy Nelson, sales and marketing director of Nelson Hotels, comments: “There are so many worthwhile charities here in the UK and we like to help in a variety of ways. For us, it may be offering an attractive prize for a raffle or auction, or providing a venue for a fundraising event. We recently supported a wonderful Children’s Charity, The Wooden Spoon, in this way when Freddie Flintoff gave his time to host a fabulous Celebrity Sportsman’s Dinner. We provided the venue and subsidised the food. We feel honoured to be able to help these charities fulfil their aims.

“The great thing about charitable work is that every little bit of help makes a difference. Every penny raised counts towards delivering much needed support to people in need.”
