4th January 2012

On 2nd April 2012, a group of key business people are stepping into the lime light to become comedians for Claire House Children’s Hospice.

The business men and women taking part in this event are all keen supporters of Claire House and work at local Chester based companies. Starting on 9th January and using their own encounters, the inexperienced comedians will train for 12 weeks, writing their own stand up piece and will finalise their challenge by performing at a fantastic new comedy venue in Chester.

The event is in partnership with The Laugh Inn, which opened in Chester in February this year and hosts comedy shows every Thursday, Friday and Saturday with some of the country’s finest comedians. Within a year, the venue has already established a long list of stars that have appeared on stage including Dave Spikey, Greg Davies, Mark Watson, Sarah Millican and a veritable host of top stand-up comedians.

Owner of the exciting new venue, John Locke is also taking part in the challenge and will be writing his own material for the main event in April. Each contestant will be encouraged to raise a minimum of £200 sponsorship and will need to each sell 20 tickets for the finale in April.

This is the first event of this kind in Chester and everyone is getting involved, including the Claire House, Cheshire Fundraising Manager, Abi Smith. She commented this week “I find it really difficult to make a joke without laughing, especially when I know the punch line so this is going to be really difficult for me! But I really wanted a new challenge for 2012 and this is something so different that I am really looking forward to it! We are hoping the money raised will contribute towards opening our ninth bed in 2012”.

There are still limited places left for anyone interested in taking part in this extraordinary challenge – so please contact Abi Smith on 0151 343 0883 or email her on abi@claire-house.org.uk as soon as possible.
