Chester FC have clinched the Evo-Stik First Division North title despite an insane last day which saw Chester lose and Skelmersdale win 7-2.

Chester FC had started the day three points clear knowing that a point from Friday's game at Garforth would mean Chester would be crowned Champions but the home team clearly didn't read the script, and ended up 2-1 winners.

Michael Powell had put Chester one up on the stroke of half time when he fired home after a great through ball from Michael Aspin.

At that time Skelmersdale were beating Ossett Albion 3-1, but Blues fans were forgiven for thinking that the points were secure.

Garforth however then turned the game round with two goals of their own, and the Blues were left sweating whilst the news from Skelmersdale was that they had gone 4-1, then 5-1, then 6-1. then 7-1 up and panic began to set in across the ground.

Chester knew that an equalizer would see to Skem's hopes of beating Chester to the title, and then Ossett made it 7-2 but still the threat was there.

Rumours were flying round the ground that Skem had gone 8-2 up then 8-3 when in reality the score was still 7-2.

The final whistle sounded at the Genix Healthcare Stadium to signal a 2-1 defeat, and then all eyes were directed to Neil Young who was listening to commentary from the Skem game, and then the news filtered through that the final whistle had sounded, and Chester were confirmed as Champions, that sparked delirious scenes amongst Chester fans, all 2300 of them that had travelled to Garforth.

George Horan then lifted the trophy to the delight of everyone in attendance, and confirm the first piece of silverware for Chester FC in their first season, and next season will take part in the Evo-Stik Premier League.

Well done Chester FC!!!
