BBC Panoramas Will Writing Investigation Generates Enquiries From Worried Viewers.

Following the recent exposure of the BBC Panorama Investigation into the unregulated Will writing industry on 10th August, The Law Society are calling for a level playing field within the market to ensure that consumers are protected against poorly drafted wills.

Panoramas investigation raised the severe risks to consumers in using unregulated and unqualified will writers. In 2009 a study produced by the Law Society found that many solicitors were being passed botched wills, originally written by will writers.

Carl Marston, Head of Wills, Trusts and Estates at Leading Chester Law Firm, Hillyer McKeown, commented “Since the airing of the Panorama Investigation, we’ve seen an increased amount of enquiries from worried consumers who have used will writers rather than a solicitor to prepare their wills. Using a Solicitor to prepare your will, gives the reassurance of a skilled professional combined with the guarantee of insurance should something go wrong”.

“This month is ‘free wills month’ in areas across the UK, including Chester. Members of the public, over the aged of 55, can contact solicitors taking part in this scheme to request an appointment where a solicitor will help draw up a will that accurately reflects their wishes. Hillyer McKeown is delighted to be supporting this scheme this year” added Carl.
