Aaron & Partners, based on Foregate Street, has been appointed to the legal panel of a £185m business investment fund designed to boost the North West economy.

The North West Fund is the largest public sector fund of its kind in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. It provides debt and equity funding to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the region.

Aaron & Partners will sit on the investment and funding panel, advising fund managers on key investments. The firm’s appointment to the panel comes after it advised on the first ever deal completed by the fund earlier this year.

Meanwhile, for the second year running Aaron & Partners has won more plaudits than any of its city rivals in the legal industry ‘bible’.

Published annually, the Legal 500 series provides independent rankings of law firms in more than 100 countries and is widely regarded as the definitive industry guide. Researchers speak to thousands of commercial clients every year, and rankings are based on what they are told.

Aaron & Partners has received 16 recommendations in this year’s newly released North West edition – more than any other law firm in Chester.
It is also mentioned eight times in the Welsh edition owing to its extensive work for clients across North Wales.

Among the recommendations there is particular praise for the corporate & commercial, litigation and agriculture/estates teams – all of which have retained top-tier rankings in their respective categories.

Individuals singled out for special mentions include head of employment Helen Watson, who has “excellent legal skills” and offers “superb client care.”

The family law team is said to offer a “fantastic level of service”, led by head of department Richard Barge who is “very cool and calm under stressful situations.”

The wills, tax and trusts team, headed up by Clive Pointon, is commended on several recent successes. These include advising on an agricultural estate administration, and lifetime succession planning with a landed estate.

Tim Culpin in transport and charity law specialist Simon Ellis are both mentioned by name in glowing terms.

Aaron & Partners chief executive Andy Duxbury said: “This has been a fantastic week for the firm.
“We are proud of our ongoing involvement with The North West Fund, which shows we are at the heart of the region’s business community.
“To again receive more recommendations than any other firm in Chester in such a respected guide to the legal profession as the Legal 500 is a tremendous accolade.
“With so many of our practice areas singled out for praise, we have received as many recommendations as some of the larger firms based in Liverpool or Manchester. This goes to show that businesses and individuals can get great legal advice here in Chester.
“We are also pleased that our work in North Wales has again been recognised.”

Aaron & Partners, Cheshire’s largest commercial law firm, employs 100 people in total.
