Cannock Chase provides superb cycling experiences for all ages and experience.
Cannock Chase is a popular and well used AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The area is used for activities such as horse riding, bird watching, walking and is very popular for mountain biking.
The mountain bikers can enjoy dedicated courses created by the team of volunteers from Chase Trails. The cycling courses range from leisurely cycling courses allowing visitors to enjoy the picturesque Cannock Chase, through to the technically advanced 'Follow the Dog' and 'The Monkey Trail'. Downhill mountain biking is also available at Stile Cop with dedicated obstacles and challenges.
Visitors travel for throughout Staffordshire, the Midlands and beyond to take on the challenging courses which can be ridden free of charge all year round. Sections may be closed at certain times for maintenance work, but diversions are always put in place.
Safety equipment is highly recommended for anyone using the courses at Cannock Chase due to their challenging nature and changing terrain. Bikes are available for hire from a bike hire shop at the start of the courses for those without a suitable suspension bike.
Follow the Dog
The Midlands first dedicated mountain bike trail. Follow the Dog is a red graded 7 mile intermediate mountain bike trail aimed at competent mountain bikers. Opened in 2005 the trail was completely designed and built by Chase Trails and more recently additional sections have been added including the all new Tackeroo descent which was built as part of the contractor works to the Monkey Trail and was opened in April 2010.
The Monkey Trail
Opened in April 2010 the Monkey Trail is an optional extension to Follow the Dog. It is also a red graded trail but this time it's a far more technically challenging and demanding trail. It includes bigger climbs, more technical descents and optional black graded lines. The trail is intended for experienced and technically competent riders.
Downhill MTB at Cannock Chase
Stile Cop is the only dedicated site for downhill riding on Cannock Chase. The site has been a breeding ground for local level downhill riding for over 10 years with Chase Trails working with the Forestry Commission to develop and maintain the trails.
