Not even the rain could put a dampener on the third annual Radcliffe Dance-off which attracted record numbers of contestants.

Visitors enjoyed a non-stop afternoon of entertainment at Radcliffe Piazza as youngsters from far and wide competed for the prizes.

The Dance-off took place on Saturday (7 May) and was sponsored by Richard Anthony Jewellers of Radcliffe.

Body locking, body popping, break dance and contemporary styles stole the show, with performers from Broad Oak High School, Derby High School, Jodie’s Pure Dance, Sunshine Studios, Active Dance and MCM Academy to name a few.

SDZ Academy dominated the finals as winners of the Groups and Singles categories, and came runner-up in the Singles as well as winning the special Seniors category. Freak Dance were runners-up in the Group section.

Winner of the special 'dinkies' category (ages 7 and under) was Radcliffe's very own Morisco Morris Dancers.

The contest was judged by performance and dance specialists Rebekah Farrington, Martin White and Pam Hunt.

Ruth Shedwick, from Bury Council’s town centres team, said: "We were unlucky with the weather, but that didn't stop hundreds of people coming to watch the amazing talent of the young people in our borough. I was blown over by the dance moves; they get better and better every year and you can see the amount of time and effort the children have put into their performances. Look out for Radcliffe Dance-off 2012!"
