Enhancing Youth Employment Opportunities Launch

Enhancing Youth For Employment (EYE) has been created to try and prepare young people in this situation to become more employable. It is being launched in Cornhill Walk at 12pm on Friday 18th November.

Their plans are that after an initial 2 day residential experience participants will then have the opportunity to spend 3 to 6 months in a voluntary work placement.

They will work 4 days per week and on the 5th day they will join the EYE team to enhance their employment skills.

All participants as part of this process will follow the NVQ Level 2 course ‘Preparing For Work.’

Each young person will also have access to a mentor from within the team and be able to call upon a professional to assist them to gain access to employment.

The cost of sending a young person on the course will be £25 per week. They acknowledge that is a cost implication to consider but we believe that this amount can easily be recouped from savings such as lower heating bills, less fridge raiding and an empty sofa! They also think that concerned parents are likely to consider this a worthy and cost effective amount to pay in order to help their offspring join the “real world”

The EYE team are keen to get the Bury St Edmunds Business community involved in this initiative. They fully appreciate that the current trading environment is very challenging and that is why all they would ask of businesses, at this time, prepared to participate, is to consider providing a place for such a young person in a voluntary capacity. Who knows they may turn into a productive employee for you if you are suitably impressed by them.

If you know of any young people who would be interested in EYE or desperate parents or you would be interested in helping, please contact Catherine Buchanan
