05:30 alarm goes off grab a cup of tea, warm up and hit the road by 06:00 for a 5 mile run before my day start. 8:00 first client hip replacement earlier this year, determined to get fit and has been working hard with me to improve mobility, muscle tone and core strength, in between our session she swims and walks to build her cardio vascular fitness. This client is inspiring to work with has she is so keen to push her fitness, despite being in her 70’s. 8:30 second client of the day, gentleman who realises he has let himself go and now wishes to be a fit 60 year old, again he is very motivated and before he came to see me he lost 2st. I am working with him on a mixture of mobility, CV, toning, core and nutrition 9:30 grab a cup of coffee before heading off to meet my Tuesday group of Nordic Walkers, meeting today at Ixworth for a five mile walk around Stowlangtoft, most of this group have been Nordic walking since February and this is their main form of physical activity. A Quick dash to Ickworth for 12:00 and my next group of Nordic Walkers, this group are on their second of four lessons learning the Nordic Walking technique. The group are eager and asking all sorts of interesting questions as they think through what I am instructing. Nordic Walking is a popular way of improving CV fitness and general muscle tone. A short break before heading to Worlington, for another Nordic walking session, this one is part of Sports Suffolk fitter village programme, who subsidies the session to ensure that those who live in rural communities have opportunity to participate in fitness activities. 16:30 Next client a home visit working with this lady primarily to increase her mobility. 18:00 Final client of the day, a runner who is keen to break 2hrs for the half marathon, tonight I will be testing her CV fitness by carrying out a 1.5 mile run test, this gives us a base line and will allow me to build a running schedule that will help her progress her fitness and reach her goal. After the running test we do 30 mins of core work. Heading home for tea, look at emails, write up/amend clients programmes etc before heading to bed! I have one of the best jobs in the world, I can share my passion for fitness with such a range of people, motivating them to get fitter and generally improve their sense of wellbeing. A lot of my clients are over 50 and many are not necessarily looking at specific goals in terms of fitness but more a general sense of wellbeing and improved quality of life. Getting clients’ active means they are fit for daily activity and for life in general. Personal training either individually or in small groups is a great way to kick start a fitter you, a fitter you means more energy, an improved sense of wellbeing and simply being able to enjoy life to the full.
