Listen, communicate, respond and take part!

Free accredited training programmes to promote positive emotional health and wellbeing across Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot county boroughs have been arranged by BAVO (Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations) and Neath Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Service (NPTCVS).

ONE in FOUR of us experience mental health problems at some time in our lives. Listen, communicate, respond and take part to encourage positive emotional health and wellbeing for yourself or someone else. The Siaradwn Ni - Lets Talk project is a ground breaking programme funded by the Big Lottery, which raises the awareness of mental health and drives up community based resilience to life changing circumstances.

The new Siaradwn Ni training brochure for April 2012 – March 2013, features accredited training and informal activities aimed at learning non-judgemental listening and communication skills for helping and supporting anyone at risk of suicide; and for young people who need help to boost their confidence and self-esteem through fun filled activities and participation.

Available to anyone working or living in the county boroughs of Bridgend, Neath or Port Talbot, the free of charge courses and activities are arranged by Mind Cymru, The Bridge Mentoring Plus Scheme, Yellow Wales and Youth Works.

Courses and activities include suicide intervention skills training, peer mentoring, understanding and handling relationships, getting and giving support, listening skills training, emotional health programmes, participation opportunities including indoor and out door activities to boost self-esteem and vital life learning skills.

Previous participants have said: “This has really helped me with my work and in my personal life – thank you so much!” and “The team were really supportive and always there if you needed to talk about something on your own.” On completing our applied suicide intervention skills training, 97% have felt more prepared to help a person at risk of suicide and 73% have already used the training to help someone.

Courses and activities are in venues in Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot county boroughs. For further details please call 01656 810400 or email: stuartburgejones@bavo.org.uk  Alternatively, you can download our new brochure at www.siaradwnni.org.uk
