Celebrate a Victorian Christmas at Bryngarw

With winter fast approaching, Bryngarw House and Country Park in Brynmenyn, Bridgend is celebrating the beginning of the festive season with a Victorian Christmas themed weekend. The event ‘A Victorian Christmas’ takes place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December from 10am-5pm, as well as outdoor carol singing, open to all at 7.30pm on Sunday 18 December.

There will be lots to do throughout the day to keep the family entertained including the opportunity to buy seasonal delights such as mulled wine, mince pies, chestnuts and toasted marshmallows from the food stalls and to listen to festive Christmas music played by a barrel organ and a brass band.

An exciting array of traditional Victorian themed rides and stalls will be featured in the event. The rides will include swing boats, a traditional children’s toy set ride and an Octopus ride. The choice of stalls feature classics such as the ‘coconut shy’, ‘tin can alley’ and the ever popular ‘hook a duck’.

Children’s entertainers will be providing fun-filled festive activities with a Victorian twist, as well as performing circus and magic tricks!

Storytelling will be taking place in Bryngarw House throughout the event. Actors will tell the story of how a Victorian Christmas would have played out in house at the time and how they would have prepared for the festive season.

The highlight of the festival is a visit from Father Christmas. He will be present from 11.15am-1.15pm on both days, meeting and greeting children and hearing their Christmas wishes.

Carol singing is open to all on Sunday 18 December at 7.30pm accompanied by a brass band and includes complimentary mulled wine and mince pies. Make your Sunday visit to Bryngarw complete; Bryngarw House is offering a three course dinner at the award winning Harlequin Restaurant from 5pm onwards. Three courses at £26.95 per person. Call 01656 729009 to make your reservation.

Admission and car parking is free all weekend but charges for rides, stalls, food and drink are applicable. This event is set on the beautiful lawns and inside the house at the award winning 113 acres of spectacular parkland that boasts Bridgend County Borough Council’s largest picturesque landscape. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
