Data Validation in Excel

You can set Excel up to allow you or someone else to enter data that meets criteria that you set.

For example, on an order form, the quantity to be ordered may be in a particular range. Say between 10 and 20 units. You can set this up so that if the person entering the data puts a number in that is below 10 or above 20 Excel will do any of several things:

  • Display an Error  Message and allow you to continue
  • Display an Error Message and stop you from entering invalid data
  • Display an Error Message for information only
