I purchased my first car, a Fiesta, from Fish Motors in June last year. Initially, the buying process was smooth, but there were some major issues along the way that left me disappointed.

The Good:
• The team were helpful during the car buying process.
• They kept me updated on the collection date and arranged a test drive with no issues.
• They also sorted my road tax while I was there, which was a nice touch.

The Bad:
• When I applied for finance through their provider, I was declined, and nobody from the garage updated me. I had to chase the finance company myself to find out. Luckily, I found my own finance provider who agreed to pay the garage directly, and the issue was sorted.
• Upon getting home, I realised the car came with no service history, which wasn’t mentioned at the time of purchase. I immediately booked a major service for peace of mind.

The Ugly:
• 1,000 miles in: The engine light came on with a P0299 underboost code. Diagnosis showed a sticking wastegate, which cost £720+VAT to repair. I also replaced the battery and spark plugs, bringing my total repair costs to over £1,000—not ideal after just a month of ownership.
• 7,000 miles in: The engine oil warning light and engine management light appeared. After towing the car to a garage, the inspection revealed that the wet timing belt had lost 3 teeth, the engine was out of time, and the oil pickup strainer was completely blocked. This repair cost me another £1,200+VAT, bringing my total repair bills to over £2,000 in just over 7 months!

Fish Motors’ Response: I contacted them, explaining that the inspection reported the underboost code had been present and turned off before sale and that the oil pickup strainer was already blocking up when I bought the car. Their response? “We can provide you with the service we did, but that’s it—you won’t get anything else.” No real support was offered for what was a catastrophic failure so soon after purchase.

Final Thoughts:

While the car buying process was smooth, the lack of communication regarding finance, the missing service history, and the major repair bills so soon after purchase were disappointing. As a first-time buyer, I expected more transparency and better after-sales support. If you’re considering buying from Fish Motors, get the car inspected before purchase and be prepared for potential issues.

10/03 Edit: Now in ongoing discussions regarding this with the dealership.

Update: Received £200 compensation towards the £1200 repair bill by Chris at Fish Motors.

What a wonderful find on a rainy morning ! all play equipment is of a high quality and the whole place is spotless ! my granddaughter had a wonderful time exploring .The owner was super friendly and helpful and the whole visit was great value for money . Would definitely return and highly recommend!
