Great hotel close to all amenities of Bolton . Good Chinese buffet across the road. About a ten minute walk to the train station. Service in this hotel was excellent . The great buffet style breakfast was all freshly prepared and topped up regularly. All in all a great hotel to have a relaxing city break in.

Went to a family wedding and was an amazing venue , staff went out there way and beyond 10/10! Everything ran smoothly and all had a good time. The building is really nice and clean. All staff were polite and approachable.

We used this hotel as a stop over from a stay in the north west area, the hotel was in a good location for the daytime shopping and Bolton had a good night life area for good pubs.
The on site secure car park is always a bonus.

The check in was a nightmare. They couldn’t find the better oking and when they did they told us we had a twin room instead of 2 double rooms. The whole escapade took 40 minutes. Not impressed.

A last minute booking. The bed was very good and the room was OK. The bathroom was very tired with bits of trim missing and a shower rail hanging off. The bar staff were pleasant and the sandwiches were reasonable. Nothing totally awful, but you wouldn't want to make it a destination stay. I am sure there is better in the area.

The hotel was value for money but the stuff were not friendly espicially the reception staff and there was a really bad small in the lobby area. Other wise it was ok we was there for only 2 nights hardly spent anytime in the hotel.

Enjoyable stay, reception staff very friendly and helpful, room clean and very comfortable, unable to alter the heating thermostat but setting comfortable so not a problem. Breakfast good, staff helpful and efficient.

I’ve stayed here a few times and the positives outweigh the negatives.
Firstly price. It was £52 on a Friday night. That represents value for money when you consider free parking (becoming increasingly rare in a town/city centre). A health club, a decent sized bar/reception area. Location (in town centre), 10 minute walk to main shopping area. Staff are also really nice.
Whilst I agree, it would benefit from upgrading (carpet in lift) and possibly some new sofas, it’s fine as a base for a couple of nights.
My main gripe with IHG properties is they don’t automatically upgrade Platinum Priority Club members. Executive rooms were clearly available on the App, I always check and screenshot after check-in. If the hotel had upgraded, I would have bought drinks in the bar and breakfast. It’s the reason I couldn’t give a 5 star review.

I paid a bit more than i normal pay for a room i work all over the uk and stay in b and b and hotels at least 3 times a week the room was a good size with tv and tea and coffee only three milk and 4 tea so not enough it has a bath and a good shower the beds are comfortable and clean but there is dust on a lot of the sides the room is getting a bit tyed walls not clean could do with painting and the draws broken, the air con didn't work at that price i think breakfast should be included.

We were attending a private event in Albert Halls so very handy for us. All in all, great place to stay. Easy check-in. Very comfortable and quiet. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a sensible price and good, plenty of vegetarian choice and healthy choices too (particularly liked the seasonal berries) - not the rip off most places charge! Some food cooked to order too. Hot drinks are a tad expensive from the bar though. Very convenient location and easy parking. Would definitely stay again.

Me and my partner stayed here 2 nights to visit friends. Hotel is ideally situated for Bolton town centre. We got around easy by walking or taxi. Hotel easy to find and free car park was a bonus. Paid £70 a night which I think is a little pricey when didn't include breakfast but looking around it seemed best value.

Staff were quite friendly (reception staff were a little ignorant and carried on talking whilst I waited to be seen and when I checked out the woman didn't speak at all to me). The cleaners always spoke and young woman at the bar through day on Saturday was really friendly and chatty. Bar open until 2am and drinks were reasonably priced (unlike the food).

Room was a good size and really comfortable bed. Had everything we needed there and it was clean. We didn't get any noise but in morning wall was so thin we could hear neighbours talking.

Had a good stay here and would return and recommend

Hotel is in desperate need of updating - rooms are very dated and the bathrooms are not particularly appealing.

We had are wedding here 22/10/17 absolutely amazing first class service the venue itself full of character very vintage throughout the day Libby and all the staff nothing was too much trouble. The venue was decorated by Lisa Jane celebrations and she's the best caring thoughtful and understands everything you want down to the smallest detail the room looked so classy this lady works so hard an would recommend her to everyone. Then of course credit also has to go to the head chef Keith the food was amazing and presentation very alacarte he deserves a medal the amount of complements was outstanding that goes for the buffet to this guy is first class and I'm not just saying this because it was our wedding but that meal was the best our guests are still talking about are wedding that means the world to myself and my husband anyone interested in booking a wedding I would highly recommend cloister holiday inn by far the best in Bolton thankyou Keith for a wonderful day and also Libby Emma and all the staff at the holiday inn love to you all Marisa and David anderson

Just had a weekend at the Holiday Inn, Bolton. Great location for the town and a free car park is always a bonus. The hotel and reception staff are very friendly and always greet you with a smile. Breakfast was also very good.

But there are things lacking.

The evening meals in the restaurant are overpriced and not the best quality. The rooms are lacking some TLC, looking a bit worn.

My biggest gripe is that on Saturday night we were kept awake until midnight because of the very loud music downstairs in the function room. Now, don't get me wrong, I know hotels need to maximise their income in a competitive market.

However, I recently stayed with a competitor who had the forethought to ask if I was with the celebration party when I checked in. When I said 'No', they offered me a room in a quiet part of the hotel away from the noise.

Why didn't the Holiday Inn, Bolton do this? Save me listening to that annoying boom boom boom you get when loud music is travelling through the walls. Remember, not all you customers are staying at your hotel for the events you have on downstairs.

The lady on reception was very apologetic when we left, and I hoped for a refund for my disturbed sleep, which would happen automatically with Premier Inn. But none offered.

Would I stay here again - only for convenience of location to town, but I would book knowing a good nights sleep is NOT guaranteed.

Hotel is pleasant but very 80s and my room showed it's age.

Staff displayed a good level of customer service throughout our stay. Breakfast was very good, and up to the usual high standard of Holiday Inn Express inclusive breakfasts.
Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed overnight for work purposes, very reasonably priced and staff were all polite and helpful. Centrally located for Bolton town centre and parking included. Room was a little bit dated but comfortable and a decent size. Shower was very hot and powerful. Evening meal and breakfast were both nice and also well-priced. Noisy people above me interrupted my sleep a few times which was annoying, but overall a good value and good quality hotel for an overnight stay.

Good location, parking fine and free, rooms very dated (I was upgraded to an exec room, dread to think what a normal one is like!)

Restaurant is massively overpriced but food okay. However, ordered the salmon and assumed it came with new potatoes as I wasn't asked what I wanted as a potato dish. It came out with chips.

Chips.

Salmon and chips?! Who on earth eats salmon and chips?

May return, but not for the salmon and chips!

At first, the idea of the wedding and the reception all taking place in the hotel seemed a little odd. That is until you turn up and notice that the hotel is attached to an old church.
We went up to our room first and settled in. It was a generous sized room and the en-suite more than adequate too. The view from the window was that of a building site but not much the hotel could do about that and it will not be like that forever either.
We then went to have a look at the venue where the wedding was due to take place the following day. I have to say I was very impressed too. They have kept all the character of the old church (but not the cold ) and it makes a most beautiful venue for the service and later the reception.
The food that evening was very nice but the prices of the drinks was quite high. That said, no more than one expects in such a hotel.
Breakfast next morning was a self service buffet and very nice it was too. You could order an omelette if preferred which we did on our second morning and this was served piping hot and was delicious.
As for the wedding, it would have been magical wherever it was held but the venue did add to it.
The area between the hotel and the church has been very well thought out and you do not have to go outside to get from one to the other.
Overall, a wonderful experience and a little hidden gem of a venue. Well done to the Holiday Inn as I have not seen such a venue before.

Stayed here for one night whilst visiting Bolton for an event.
Small carpark which is free for guests, check in quick and receptionist very friendly. 1st floor Room was clean and had all usual stuff ie hairdryer, toiletries etc.
I had seen on other reviews that the hotel does weddings and there was one during our Saturday stay. When we got back to hotel around 11:30pm it was in full swing, back in our room it was as if we were at the party the noise was so loud. Think the music got switched down around 12:30am. Not great if you need some sleep.
Breakfast is hectic but there is a good choice of food. Maybe better to have breakfast in the room which is an option.
Check out quick and again friendly receptionist.
Would use again but maybe ask for higher floor if wedding is going on

Room shabby (not chic), lumpy bed and smelly shower curtain.

On the plus side, food really good, room a decent size and best of all was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They couldn't have been better and made this rating a 3 rather than a 2.

Come on, Mr Holiday Inn, give those lovely staff of yours a nicer place to work!
