The event called local services for safer communities is taking place on Friday 27 November at Crowne Plaza Solihull and will raise awareness of specialist domestic abuse services in Solihull and explore how the organisation can work together to create safer communities.

Birmingham & Solihull Women’s aid have provided vital emotional and practical support to women and children for more than 45 years through specialist services and help women and children access safety, rebuild their lives, and more towards a future free from abuse.

The event will also provide an opportunity to meet the Solihull Women’s aid team and learn more about the specialist services in Solihull whilst also discovering the different ways organisations can contribute to tackling domestic abuse.

By bringing local services, businesses, and people together, we hope to encourage greater awareness, collaboration, and community action to help prevent abuse and improve support.

We will also hear from speakers, including Maureen Connolly, our chief executive officer, alongside a guest speaker to be announced.

The event will take place as part of the international 16 Days of Activism Against gender-based violence campaign, which runs annually from 25 November to 10 December.

This global campaign calls for action to end violence against women and girls, strengthen justice for survivors, and challenge the impunity that allows perpetrators to escape accountability.

Fiza Nazeem, (pictured) community-based fundraiser, at Solihull & Birmingham’s Women’s aid said: “We would like to thank Crowne Plaza Solihull and WISE for sponsoring our event and supporting our work.

“Their support helps us continue raising awareness of domestic abuse and strengthening connections within our local communities.

“Building strong relationships with local businesses, organisations, and community groups is vital to the work we do.

“Through this event, we hope to raise awareness of domestic abuse, help people understand the specialist support we provide across Solihull, and show how we can all play a part in creating safer communities for women and children.”
