The new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations will see them work together to deliver community-based learning, internships and volunteering opportunities, as well as explore ways to make higher education more accessible to underrepresented groups.

As part of the partnership, BCU and LCE will look at how the Legacy Centre’s vibrant Aston campus can be used for education and skills activity, including potential short courses, community training and mentoring programmes.

Professor David Mba, vice-chancellor of BCU, said: "This partnership marks an important step in strengthening the relationship between the University and the Legacy Centre of Excellence.

“Together, we will create new pathways for learning, skills development and community engagement that reflect the diversity and vibrancy of our city.

“We can open up higher education to more people, offer meaningful experiences for our students, and help nurture the next generation of talent and changemakers."

Located in Newtown, the Legacy Centre of Excellence is the UK’s largest independent Black-owned business and arts centre, supporting creativity, cultural growth and entrepreneurship.
