People travelling in and around the Perry Barr area are being advised to allow more time for journeys due to roadworks starting on Monday, June 8.
The works, which are being carried out by Birmingham City Council as part of the ongoing Perry Barr regeneration programme, will involve a range of temporary road layouts as well as some off-peak and overnight lane closures.
It means that local traffic and those travelling to and from the city centre may be affected and people are being urged to plan ahead.
During this first phase of works, there will be off-peak (9.30am to 3.30pm) and overnight (8pm to 6am) lane closures to minimise disruption, with a new temporary road layout being installed in order for the rest of the works to be completed. For this phase of works the flyover will remain in use as at present.

Anne Shaw, director of network resilience at Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) said:
“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to continue to travel in and around the Perry Barr area while Birmingham City Council undertakes these works and we are committed to keeping people moving.
“It will be important to plan ahead and leave more time for your journey. We will be working with Birmingham City Council to reduce congestion and improve journey reliability, issuing advice on when and how to travel as well as working with local businesses to provide advice and support.
“The scheme is part of a major investment into the area with numerous improvements being made which will mean that Perry Barr is not only more accessible for public transport but also for pedestrians and cyclists to travel around the area safely and with more space to do so.”
In developing the scheme, Birmingham City Council has devised a project that it has based on a range of aims.
These include making Perry Barr a safer place for all users of the transport network and delivering environmental benefits – through the development of alternative options to the car for local residents, including a stop for the A34 Sprint bus rapid transit route being delivered by TfWM.
Cllr Waseem Zaffar, cabinet member for transport and environment at Birmingham City Council, added: “This scheme will deliver a key part of the modernised transport infrastructure that is crucial for the wider investment and long-term regeneration of Perry Barr and surrounding areas.
“Improved public transport options, more reliable journey times and a better environment for cycling and walking will all help make Perry Barr one of the most well-connected areas in the region, if not the most connected of all.
“To get to that point, there is a need to change existing transport arrangements and we will work with our partners at TfWM to ensure local residents, businesses and commuters are kept up to date as and when necessary as we begin the transformation of north west Birmingham.”
Access to residential and commercial buildings, including the One Stop Shopping Centre, will be maintained throughout the works at all times.
The highway improvement scheme is due for completion in late 2021.
