BIRMINGHAM, UK – 29th September 2025 – Susan Vickers, the acclaimed author, broadcaster, theatre critic, and community entrepreneur, has delivered a series of truly magical performances that brought ancient Chinese creation stories to vivid life for Birmingham audiences.
What began as two sold-out performances exploring Chinese creation mythology proved so enchanting that Susan and her fellow performers from The Moon Lamp Players were invited to take their show to the prestigious Ming Moon Restaurant in Birmingham’s bustling Chinese Quarter, courtesy of the Birmingham Chinatown Business Association. The Ming Moon, known for its vibrant atmosphere and central location, provided a perfect stage for this enriching cultural journey.
The cultural journey reached its crescendo on Sunday 28th September, when Susan graced the stage at the Birmingham Conference & Events Centre for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Organised by the Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee and funded by Arts Council England, this final performance was the crown jewel of a remarkable artistic collaboration, drawing in huge crowds for the city’s celebration.
Across all three performances, more than 1,500 people were transported into the world of ancient Chinese storytelling, creating moments of genuine wonder and cultural connection that will linger long in the memory.
“Witnessing the audience’s faces light up as these timeless stories unfolded was absolutely magical,” said Susan Vickers. “There’s something profoundly moving about how mythology can bridge cultures and generations, these ancient tales spoke to every single person in those rooms, regardless of their background.”
The overwhelming success of these performances demonstrates the enduring power of storytelling to bring communities together and celebrate our shared humanity through the arts.
