The Restart Scheme is a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) programme that helps individuals (participants) develop their skills so they can find long-term, meaningful employment.

Serco delivers the Restart Scheme contract in West Central England.

Mr Carns met with Restart Scheme participants and staff to understand the support Serco provides to help people move back into employment.

He also had a demonstration of the ‘real-time translation devices’, which allow participants whose first language is not English to converse with a job coach.

Al said: “It was a pleasure to visit the Birmingham office and see firsthand the impact the Restart Scheme is having for people across our community.

“The team is doing important work supporting local people who have been out of work for some time to rebuild confidence, develop new skills and access sustainable employment.

“Hearing directly from constituents about their experiences of the programme really brought home the difference that tailored, local support can make.

“Initiatives like the Restart Scheme play a vital role in connecting people with opportunities and supporting businesses to find the workforce they need, helping to strengthen our local economy.”

The Serco Restart Scheme has supported over 21,000 people into work since 2021 in West Central England.
